| 613 | Aug 16 1988 |  "The Cheshire Contract" Part 1 (Nightwing) Nightwing is busting a group of criminals but finds himself facing a gun. An arrow from nowhere saves his life. Speedy has come into town looking for his old friend. He needs Dick's help to track down Cheshire... the mother of Roy's child. Dick offers to get the Titans together but Roy says it can only be the two of them. Cheshire has be hired to assassinate an ambassador. Dick and Roy share a heart to heart over Dick leaving Batman. It is interesting to read Dick's thoughts on it. Nightwing and Speedy arrive and warn the Ambassador... cross to Cheshire who has her gunsites on Roy.

| 614 | Aug 23 1988 |  "The Cheshire Contract" Part 2 - First Blood. (Nightwing) Cheshire moves her site to the Ambassador but hits a bodyguard. Roy races off after Cheshire, depsite Dick's warning not to. Speedy is about to meet his maker when Nightwing springs to the rescue stating, "I told you to stay put, Harper. You're an archer, not a fighter." Cheshire fights dirty and slashes Dick with a toe claw and escapes by tossing him a bomb which he despences with safely. Roy fills us in on how he and Cheshire met... not love, according to him. Just hormones. Dick senses that there is something that Roy isn't telling him and when the Ambassador is killed, Dick decides it is time to find out what Roy is keeping from him. Roy, meanwhile has gone off to meet Cheshire... and they both know that at some stage one of them will have to kill the other.

| 615 | Aug 30 1988 |  "The Cheshire Contract" Part 3 - Tracks of a Killer. (Nightwing) Nightwing's suspicions grow and he goes to speak to Lord Hill. Dick is still suffering from the injury to his leg. Cheshire is on a killing spree and then goes him and hugs Lian who she can't deny, looks like her father. Speedy is still off on his own and looking for Cheshire. Finally he calls Dick and reaizes that his friend is getting suspicious and so he decides not to wait and go on his own. Dick, meanwhile, calls the Titans and discovers that Roy was fired from CBI (the group that he had told Dick he was still working... the group that had sent them on this mission).

| 616 | Sept 6 1988 |  "The Cheshire Contract" Part 4 - Counterpoint. (Nightwing) Roy has found where Cheshire is staying but is attacked and defeated by her master. Rather than killing him, the master decides to leave the deed to Cheshire when she gets home. Nightwing has a discussion with some police and discovers that Roy is leaving a trail of beaten thugs. Dick tracks down one but Cheshire kills him before Dick can get any answers. Nightwing and Chesire fight and the comic ends with Nightwing trying to avoid cheshire's poisoned claws.

| 617 | Sept 13 1988 |  "The Cheshire Contract" Part 5 - Motives. (Nightwing) Nightwing is able to 'get away' from Cheshire and she is surpised that he runs... for good reason. He isn't interested in her... only in finding his friend and he knows she holds the key to Speedy's whereabouts. Cheshire realizes that Nightwing is trying to trick her and will try to follow... which he does using a police helicoptor. Cheshire goes home and is beating on Roy promising him that he will never see his daughter... which is what all of this is about. Roy has lied to his best friend and come all of this way to meet Lian. Just as Cheshire is about to kill Roy, Nightwing crashes through a window. Before he can recover, Cheshie is upon him. He fights back but is distracted when Speedy calls out to him. Roy frees himself and rushes across to help, only to be slashed by Cheshire's poisoned fingernails. Nightwing is left with a choice... save Roy or pursue Cheshire. There is no choice to make. Later, we see Cheshire and her Master... she knows that Roy has her daughter.

| 618 | Sept 20 1988 |  "The Cheshire Contract" Conclusion. (Nightwing) Roy wakes up in hospital and Nighwing introduces him to his daughter. Roy tells Dick how sorry he is for everything and how much he has always envied him. Dick reminds him that everyone makes mistakes and that no one is completely together. Nightwing has bugged Cheshire, catches up with him and captures her. As she is taken away, she begs Nightwing to look after her baby... to which Dick replies, "Lian is in good hands. The best of hands." Roy is lieft to face a hearing for what he did and one to seek custody of Lian. Dick flies home into the waiting arms of Kory where he admits that he has always been jealous of Roy's carefree and open personality.

| 627 | Nov 22 1988 |  "Rocks and Hard Places" Part 1 - Travels and Part 2 - Distractions. (Nightwing) Nightwing has returned to Ireland to visit Speedy who is taking six months off to regroup. They are on some sort of ferry. When Roy goes to feed Lian, Dick is distracted by a girl, follows her and watches as she drives a van containing a coffin off the boat. Nightwing follows and ends up in the freezing water battling to get on top of the coffin to survive. Problem: some thug is trying to kill him. Speedy hears the comotion and jumps onto the recuse boat. He fires Dick a line only to see the thug use it to try and strangle Dick. then a second boat appears and tries to run Nightwing down. While the police begin firing on the second craft, Roy focuses on rescuing his best friend. He finally pulls a freezing Nightwing from the water. Back at their roon, Roy explains how he was fired from CBI - he discovered some things he didn't like invovling drugs and reported it to his superior... next thing he knew, he had been fired. Roy and Dick go for a stroll with Lian in a pram and are followed. Before Nightwing can question the people who aren't just follwing them, but trying to kill them, a sniper kills the man. Nightwing heads back to the US to investigate CBI. A mystery man states that he will be taken care of and the Roy, too, will e dealt with.

| 631 | Dec 20 1988 |  "Rocks and Hard Places" Part 6 - Old Friends, New Enemies. (Dick) Yayyyy. Dick's back. Dick arrives and is in the car with Roy when they are chased. Great exchange between the two of them with Dick first telling him to slow down so they aren't killed and they telling him to go faster so they aren't killed. (g) Dick ends up having to shoot the baddies with one of Speedy's arrows.

| 632 | Dec 27 1988 |  "Rocks and Hard Places" Part 7 - A Time of changes. (Nightwing) The girl Roy befriended (Moira) is injured in a blast. Meanwhile Dick finds himself in the middle of a gunfight... being shot out by both sides until Roy turns up. The pair find out the enemy is called the F.O.E.s. Moira is okay and Roy says goodbye. We meet the man who has been selling drugs to finance the war between the rival sides... his name is Paul O'Connor. Mr. O'Connor is off to the US where the detective Dick and Roy keep running into, is already.

| 633 | Jan 3 1989 |  "Rocks and Hard Places" Part 8 - Behind Closed Doors. (Nightwing) Roy and Dick land back in Washington... minus Lian. Not sure where she is. They are met at the airport by CBI... Dick was expecting them. Roy is suspicious. The detective from Ireland is kidnapped after spotting the man he knows is behind everything. Roy and Dick's car is attached by kids playing soldier and the head of the CBI disappears leaving the two friends to walk back to town. They receive a lift from the Irish detective (Hunter). They end up back in CBI office where Lord Danvers appears and he and the head of CBI have Nightwing and Speedy framed and arrested.

| 634 | Jan 10 1988 |  "Rocks and Hard Places" Part 9 - The Circle Closes. (Nightwing) Speedy and Nightwing free themselves and then discover that the CBI have been on to their crooked head for some times and had been looking for the Irish connection. Detective Hunter becomes a star when both heads are taken down. Story ends with Kory, Dick, Roy and Lian enjoying some time together.
