Hi everyone
Haven't dropped in for a while? Here are all of my updates all the way back to the 28th of Feb 2005. Enjoy.
Update from Jan 4th 2008
Hi everyone
Where did Christmas go? Where did 2007 go?
Happy New Year to everyone and I hope your Christmas was fun and filled with love.
# Email updates: Agghhhh! I think that just about covers it. I am a long way behind but I promise I will catch up. In the month of Dec my list exchanged over 7000 messages, but I'm now up to date with those and can move to private ones.
# Writing Updates: I posted five stories and three round robin parts during the Christmas Celebration week. Unfortunately I didn't get Em7: Episode 9 complete so I will try to finish that one for Easter.
Long message. Hope you are sitting down. (bg) It relates to me posting my new stories on my site.
I have had numerous messages asking why I am not posting my stories to my site or to the Mag 7 archives any more. As a matter of fact, in the past few months I have received friendly requests, demands and even abuse.
The tone and theme of the demands and abuse is the same - I have no right to choose where I post my stories. I find it fascinating that it is acceptable for a writer to post her work exclusively in Zines which readers must pay for, yet, for some reason some people deem it unacceptable for an author to choose to post exclusively on one list. I’m afraid I don’t understand this. The Vin F & D list is not closed. Anyone can join it.
As many of you know, in 2003 I was viciously flamed and when I made the mistake of responding to the message, my flamer had her friends send threats and profanity. It was a dreadful experience and I left the fandom for some time. My flamer’s attack stole not only my confidence (the message was something to behold), but the joy I found in writing. I know it is stupid. I know allowing these people get to me is silly, but that does not make it any easier to deal with, particularly as the flames have continued. I know my writing isn’t brilliant. Unfortunately talent and enthusiasm don’t always go hand in hand, but I love writing about the boys and I’m not allowing these faceless cowards to stop me.
When I returned to Mag 7 in July 2004, I started a group of my own called “Vin Fanfic and Discussion Group”. This group provides a safe haven for writers. The girls on list don’t seem to mind that I’m not an accomplished writer. They read my attempts and send support. They share their writing and I send them support. It is simple and fun. I feel very safe posting my stories there and with the support of this wonderful group of ladies, my confidence is growing and my love of Mag 7 is stronger than ever. During our recent celebration week we examined the episode “Working Girls” and it was an absolute blast!
I have intermittently posted stories to my site since July 2004 but, as I said, the flames have continued. Yes, I know it is likely to be the same person/people using various emails addresses, but I’ve had enough. Second guessing what I write, shaking when I open a piece of feedback – it isn’t worth it. Last year, I built up the courage to again post some stories on my site. The only response I received was a flame. I admit, I was devastated. I decided then that I would never again open myself up to this.
I realize that in doing so I have been punishing both my friends and myself as I can no longer share my stories with the wonderful people who have sent me support in the past. While some of my friends have joined the Vin Fanfic and Discussion Group, others have not as it is a high traffic list – averaging 3000 messages a month in 2007… over 7000 in December alone. (g) Yep, the boys are still riding strong.
So, I have not been posting my stories on my site in an effort to avoid these people who have nothing better to do than be nasty. I could see no other solution.
Last week I discovered that my webpage provider allows me to password protect selected pages. An idea was birthed – if I place a password on my new writing, I could keep flamers out and share with those who always sent support when I posted a story.
So, I have made a decision… it hasn’t been easy. Thank you, Teri for your wonderful support.
I am going to start sharing my stories beyond the Vin Fanfic and Discussion Group again but with restricted access for all of the reasons stated above.
This is a huge step for me and I’m still not sure I’m doing the right thing. I know I will receive criticism for this decision if the messages I have been receiving are anything to go by.
“all you are doing is creating an elite group” (Reference to the list I have been posting my stories on. Don’t understand what this person means.)
“you have no right to withhold stories” (okay, I laughed at this one.)
“you don’t own the stories you write because they are fanfiction so I don’t see what the problem is. Just post them so everyone can read them” (interesting philosophy.)
“Will you fix the links. All they do is go to some silly Yahoo group. This is the second time I’ve told you.” (Just rude)
“Links don’t work. Can’t access anything” (And…?)
Yes, these are direct quotes from messages I have received in the last three months. The interesting thing about all of these is they are from people I don’t know and have never heard from previously. Not one of them said ‘hi’ or used my name and only two signed their name. Needless to say, I have not responded. There are some very strange people out there. (g) I am a living breathing person… not a computer. I do this as a hobby to meet people and share my passion… not to provide a service for rude people.
If you are a friend who would like to read the stories I wrote in 2007, email me nominating a password of six characters (nothing connected to the show or it would be too easy for someone to hack into (g). It could take up to a week for me to activate it... yep real person on this end. (G) I ask only two things…
# that you respect my right to choose who I share my stories with
# and that you take a few moments to let me know what you think of a story. Silence is the worst flame in the world. Don’t bother with flames… I’ll simply deactivate you. (bg)
Please note:
(a) If you share your password with anyone else and I find out, I will immediately deactivate it.
(b) If I don’t know you, I won’t activate your password. Sorry.
(c) If you have never contacted me before and want to read my stories, drop me a note so I can meet you and we can take it from there.
(d) Before I post each new batch of stories (usually immediately after a celebration week - we have 4 a year) I will check the user list and if I haven't heard from you after the last batch of stories, I will assume you no longer what access and I will deactivate your password.
All of this may seem silly or an over-reaction, but I’ve been living with this harassment for four long years and it has taken its toll. More than once I have been close to just pulling down my site and leaving.
This way the flamers LOSE!
Thank you to the girls on the Vin F & D Group without whose support I would have stopped writing three and a half years ago.
Special thanks to Teri for giving me the confidence to do this. Teri, I can't begin to tell you what your freindship and support means to me.
Okay. Time to bite the bullet... I can't believe how nervous I am. As a trial, I have uploaded two stories only behind the password protection. When you click on the links below you will be asked for your user name and your password.
USER NAME: The email address you used to contact me
PASSWORD: The six characters you emailed me.
This will give you access to the 2 stories below.
I want make it very clear that his is just a trail at this stage. If this works, I will upload all of the other stories I wrote in 2007. Watch this space for updates.

Wow! Where did those three weeks go? My holiday is over... back to work tomorrow.
# Email updates: I'm update with list email, but I still have 20 email in my hotmail account to catch up on. Why? We have just finsihed celebrating our Anniversary week on the Vin Fanfic and Discussion Group and so far this month we've shared over 3600 messages. (G) It is hard to believe the list is 3 years old! Things have slowed since the end of the celebration and I should be able to catch up on all email by the end of this week. I want to thank everyone who has sent me a message. I love hearing from friends, new and old. Supernatural - this week I will comment on the ep. and post the next.
# Writing Updates: Yes. I have completed Em7: Episode 8 - "The Choice." 258 pages. I have posted it on list and will add it to my site soon. I have already started the next episode, which I will post as Episode 8.5. It will be an interim ep. between Episode 8 and 9. 14 pages so far.
# Collage Updates: Agghhh! I just haven't had time to add them.
# Site Updates: Mag 7 - nothing at the moment. I have grabbed all season one episodes, I just have to organize them and post them. Now that I have season 2, I hope to get those completed too. Nightwing - I'm in Mag 7 mode at the moment. (G)
Update from June 23rd 2007
Life has been hectic. My sister has just had a baby... 7 and a half weeks premature. I've been helping with babysitting her 15 month old and visiting the hospital and so Mag 7 time has been limited. However, I've just started three weeks holiday and so I should be able to get some things done. * Our third anniversary is coming up on the Vin Fan Fic and Discusson Group at the beginning of July which should be lots of fun. * I have recently discovered Supernatural and really enjoy the show. No writing in that fandom, but I have a few ideas. * Nightwing - I know I have left that story hanging, and I promise I will finish it. (g)
# Email updates: I'm a little bit behind on list and I know I have some email in my private email inbox too. As soon as the membership review is complete, I will try to catch... should be in the next week.
# Writing Updates: I am working on Em7: Episode 8... over 100 pages now. I'm hoping to post it for the Anniversary celebration in July. I haven't written anything for the challenges yet.
# Collage Updates: Agghhh! I just haven't had time to add them. I will try to over this holiday.
# Site Updates: Mag 7 - nothing at the moment. I have grabbed all season one episodes, I just have to organize them and post them. Now that I have season 2, I hope to get those completed too. Nightwing - I'm in Mag 7 mode at the moment. (G)
Update from April 20th 2007
# The Easter break is over and back to work. (g) The April Celebration on the Vin Fanfic and Discussion Group was great fun. I can't wait for May 22nd when Season Two comes out in the US. I have my copies on order. (bg)
# Site Updates: Nothing at the moment. I hope to find time to add all of my Season One grabs in the next few weeks. Over Christmas I created a fanvideo for anyone who is interested. It was my first attempt. (g) I'd like to make more when I have time. You can find it here.
# Email updates: I'm a little bit behind on list and I know I have some email in my private email inbox too. The first two weeks back at school are always busy. I will answer everything in the next few weeks.

I have added theme music to my Em7 page and to my new AU "Book of Fate". Just click on them to hear the songs chosen. What do you think?

Mag 7 - I have been doing a great deal of Mag 7 writing. I wrote 9 stories for Anniversary Week back in July, and they are listed below - I still haven't posted my Wagon Train Vinification. I hope to have that link up and working soon. Interestingly, I posted many of the Anniversary Week stories a few weeks ago on this site, but didn't announce it here. About 90 people appear to have found them and been reading. I want to thank the two people who took the time to let me know they enjoyed the stories. Following the flame I received a few years ago, I still graple with posting my work in a public forum and hearing from you meant the world to me. My thanks particularly goes to the girls on the Vin Fanfic and Discussion Group. Girls, your support has given me the confidence to write again.
I wrote two stories for Spooky Weekend and they are posted below.
I have finally got around to organising an AU I've had half-developed for about four years and the intro for that is below. The prologue is with my beta reader.
And I've already written two short stories for Christmas. (g)
Nightwing - I guess I'm back in Mag 7 mode for the moment. Don't worry. I will finish the story. (G)

Collage Updates: I still haven't got to these. Sorry. I will in about 5 weeks when my Christmas break begins.
# Thanks to a wonderful new friend, I now have seven bears that very much remind me of some cowboys you may know. (g) Take a look.

Update from July 9th 2006
# Wow! Things have been all over the place just recently. Real life has been busy, but we had the most amazing Anniversary week on the Vin Fanfic and Discussion Group. Amost 5000 messages in 7 days. What a blast. My motivation to write Mag 7 had dwindled but as a result of this week of antics, I posted 9 stories and have started work on Em7 Episode 8. Thank you to all of the girls on the list. You are an amazing group of friends.
# Site Updates: No... but I hope to do a great deal in September when I have some time off.
# Email updates: Agghh! I am quite a bit behind. I will try to get to them in the next two weeks.
# Writing Updates: Mag 7 - yep. I posted nine stories over the course of anniversary week. 4 OW - (one of which was my vinfication of Wagon Train) 4 Em7 stand-alones. And one Little Vin, little Ezra fic. I haven't had time to add them here yet... some I won't post here. "More Trouble Than He Can Handle" is still unfinished. I hope to get to it as well, however, I've started planning out Em7 episode 8 and hope to start writing it today.
Nightwing - I guess I'm back in Mag 7 mode for the moment. Don't worry. I will finish the story. (G)
Collage Updates: Oh yeah. About 25 that I prepared and posted for anniversary week. I'll add them to my site as soon as I can.
Update from April 2nd 2006
# Yes, I know. It has been a looooong time since I've updated. There are many reasons. First, real life is really busy. The Aussie government has changed regulations relating to curriculum and so my colleagues and I are attending meeting after meeting so we can all be inserviced in the new regulations. Second, my health has been a little shakey - high blood pressure. My days are too long and there aren't enough hours in them. Third, I am sharing what little time I have between the boys and Nightwing. However there is light at the end of the tunnel. I have some leave coming up at the end of August so I hope to spend some time working on my site and doing lots of writing then.
# Site Updates: Yes. I have begun to bring my Nightwing page across to this site. This little site is beginning to grow as I catelogue all of Dick's appearances.
# Email updates: I am hoping to catch up today. If you send me a message and don't hear from me within a couple of weeks, it means it has been swallowed by cyberspace. I have two email addresses so please try the other one. I love hearing from people.
# Writing Updates: No Mag 7 at the moment. I am in the middle of an OW story which has left poor Vin in a bad way... you're all suprised aren't you? (G) I have four days off over Easter. I would like to work on this story then.
Nightwing - I hope to find time to work on "A Father's Day to Remember" over Easter too. It is going to be a busy Easter. (G)
Collage Updates: No. Sorry.
# To my Mag 7 pards. Please relax. I'm certainly not leaving the boys. I'm just sharing my time evenly between my two interests. In July, the Vin Fanfic and Discussion Group will celebrate it's 2nd anniversary... I really need to ge my butt in gear and get something written for it. (g)
Update from December 31st 2005
# I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and that your new year celebrations are fun and safe.
# Site Updates: Yes. Finally. Some site updates. (g) I have added a new section to my AU fiction for Little Britches. LB isn't my favourite AU... as a matter of fact I've only read a handful but for some reason, several Christmas stories came to mind with children so, I wrote one of them.
I have also updated my Em7 page by dividing it into the two types of stories I am writing in it... Episodes and Stand-Alones.
# Email updates: I am up to date with everything except my hotmail account. I will catch up on that this week. If you send me a message and don't hear from me within a couple of weeks, it means it has been swallowed by cyberspace. I have two email addresses so please try the other one. I love hearing from people.
# Writing Updates: I have been writing bits and pieces. As already mentioned, I wrote Christmas LB story. I also wrote a Little Vin Little Buck story but it didn't really work. (G) I did post it on the Vin Discussion group list, but it won't be posted anywhere else. (bg) I have written another stand alone Em7 story. Finally, I am hoping to finish the OW story I'm working on some time this week.

I have also given my Old West Fanfiction Index a new look. Here are a sample of the new collages.

# I have been contacted by "First Book", a literacy organization in Washington, DC. This is what was sent to me. "...Eric Close is making an appearance on an affiliate website of ours (www.theliteracysite.com) and will be answering questions from fans on the website. Would you be able to provide a link from your website to ours to let your visitors know about Eric Close's appearance?" I received a second email yesterday. "It is now the time when Eric Close, star of "Without a Trace," needs your help to distribute free, new books to economically disadvantaged children across the country. Please direct your site visitors to , from Monday, March 28, 2005 to Sunday, April 3." So there you have it. I'm going to drop in on the 28th to see what I can find. Below is the banner they sent me to add to my page.

# Site Updates: I'm trialling a new idea. I have some buttons at the top of this page that gives you access to past updates and the last few stories I have posted. This will ensure that this page isn't bogged down with a lot of old information and if people want to catch up, they just have to check the past updates or recent stories links.
# Email updates: I'm still up to date and my system of of ensuring I have responded to everything within a week is working well. Reminder: If you don't receive a response from me, it will mean it hasn't arrived, so please resend it or try my other email address. I have two. brigittabrookman@hotmail.com and bbrookman@ozemail.com
# Writing Updates: Still working on Em7 Episode 7 and wanting to write another short stand alone Em7 story. (g)
# NEW: I have created two new collages. Here are small versions of them. If you want to see the full size, drop in at my collage page here .

If anyone happens to have a copy of what appears to be a missing page joining onto the first one, please contact me.
17th March 2005
# Huge thank you to all of those people who have read my recently posted stories and particuarly to that group of friends who take the time to post feedback. Since receiving a flame two years ago (Yes, this Easter, it has been two years!) I truly value every comment I receive from new and old friends... and I always send a response.
# Site Updates Nothing to report at the moment. I have been doing some writing. (g)
* I am going to leave past updates on the page for a month and then delete them. I seem to be updating quite regularly at the moment and should continue to do so.
# Email updates Yep, I am up to date. (g) I will be responding to all messages every week so I don't fall behind. If you don't receive a response from me, it will mean it hasn't arrived, so please resend it or try my other email address. I have two. brigittabrookman@hotmail.com and bbrookman@ozemail.com
# Writing Updates We have movement on Em7. (g) I have written two pages. To tell you truth, I have found it difficult to get back into the swing of things and I've lost my notes on the story. So, I'm replanning the ending of the story.
* I also have an idea for a short Em7 story burning in my mind at the moment, so I might put that on paper in the next few days too. (g)
# Finally, it is so wonderful to be back full time. I haven't truly been able to dedicate the time I wanted to the fandom for almost two years. Yes, my flame experience had a great deal to do with that and real life hasn't been kind over the last 18 months. However, all is fine now and I'm having a ball. Special thanks to the girls on the Vin Fanfic and Discussion Group. You are a crazy bunch of people... and I feel right at home. LOL And thanks also to those special friends who have stayed in touch and continued to send support and encouragement. THANK YOU.
# I have had a couple of people ask why my stories are no longer on the "Blackraptor Magnificent Seven Fanfiction Site". No, Nancy and I haven't had a big fight or anything. LOL One of the requirements of Blackraptor is that stories can't be posted elsewhere and I post all of my stories here on my own page these days. Blackraptor's rules allow me to link to its character pages, so that is what I do. The other reason is, I cleaned up the language in all of my older stories and I felt it wouldn't be right to ask Nancy to re-upload all of the new, clean versions. This is timeconsuming... I know. I had to do it on my site. So, I decided that the easiest and fairest thing to do was remove the stories, which Nancy did for me. Rest assured, Nancy and I are still friends. I have links to her page on my site and she has links to my pages on her fantastic "Close-ups" page. I will always be in Nancy's debt. She is the first person I had contact with in the fandom. I was a very naive writer who plucked up the courage and posted my story to her. Her kindness at that time will never be forgotten. I hope that clears up the mystery as to why my stories 'disappeared' from Blackraptor. (g)

# Things are going well. I am not only gradually making my way through my Mag 7 Corner and updating it, but I'm also working through my email. I have started with messages from the Vin Fanfic and Discussion Group and then I will be moving onto messages on my hotmail account. (g) If I continue at this rate, I should have most of my email answered by the end of the week.
# I have yet to transfering my Nightwing Corner over to this site. That one may be a few weeks away. If you use the link, there isn't anything there at the moment except a redirection to my site at Angelfire.
# On the writing front: I am allocating myself 30 mins a day for writing while I am trying to catch up on all of my email soooo, I will be working on Em7 Episode 7 this week.
The last two stories I posted were, The Answer is No - It ain't over 'til the Colonel Sings and The Answer is No - The Titanic and General Custer
# On the Email front: As I've said, I am making good progress at the moment (g)
I wish you Vinly thoughts and a Vintastic day!
Brigitta.
