NEW YORK CITY (STOCK) - DAY] SCENE #01: [INT LAWRENCE HOSPITAL -- DAY (DR. ANWAR SAMIR walks past the nurse's station and into the patient's room.) DR. ANWAR SAMIR: Mrs. Janny. Okay your blood pressure's a little higher than I'd like it, but we'll see how you do with the new meds. Just remember to take them. MRS. JANNY: Well, you know, I get so confused sometimes with all the pills and my son can't come by every day and put them out for me ... (DR. SAMIR reaches into his coat pocket and pulls out a daily pill container. MRS. JANNY smiles.) DR. ANWAR SAMIR: That's why I got this for you. Have your son put each pill you have to take in these slots. That way you won't forget. I've already done the first week for you. MRS. JANNY: That is so sweet. DR. ANWAR SAMIR: I don't want to see you for four weeks, Mrs. Janny. I don't want my girlfriend to get jealous. (DR. SAMIR steps to the side to fill out the chart.) MRS. JANNY: Your girlfriend is lucky to have a man like you, Dr. Samir. And you're the best doctor in this whole hospital. DR. ANWAR SAMIR: Thank you, Mrs. Janny. CUT TO: SCENE #02: [INT. LAWRENCE HOSPITAL - LOCKER ROOM/HALLWAY -- DAY] (The wall clock reads 5:20. DR. ANWAR SAMIR unlocks his locker. Frustrated, he pulls off his lab coat and throws it into the locker. He grabs his jacket out of his locker and shuts the door. He locks it up. He puts on his coat and turns to leave.) (DR. ANWAR SAMIR walks down the hallway toward the doors.) JACK: (v.o.) Dr. Anwar Samir, 30 years old, single, Saudi Arabian descent. Third-year intern at Lawrence Hospital. He put in an 18-hour shift and left for home. He's missed two shifts. It's been 39 hours since anyone's heard from him. (As he walks toward the front doors, ANWAR SAMIR vanishes.) CUT TO: SCENE #03: [INT. LAWRENCE HOSPITAL - HALLWAY] (MRS. PETERSON walks down the hallway and fills JACK and MARTIN in on ANWAR SAMIR) MRS. PETERSON: The head nurse called his home phone but only got the machine. We paged him, no response. Last night one of his colleagues went to check on him at his apartment. No one was home. JACK: Has Dr. Samir ever done anything like this before? MRS. PETERSON: Never. He's worked three years at the hospital. He's only missed two days. Both times he called in. JACK: Has he had any problems with patients? MRS. PETERSON: Nope. JACK: Doctors? MRS. PETERSON: His evaluations are exemplary. (They turn the corner and walk out of the hallway.) CUT TO: SCENE #04: [INT. LAWRENCE HOSPITAL - LOCKER ROOM/LOUNGE] (MARTIN cuts the lock to ANWAR SAMIR'S locker.) MRS. PETERSON: The hospital is sponsoring his visa and the new rules are very specific. With J-1 visa status, we have any time anyone misses work without informing us. I hope you don't think I'm an alarmist. It's just that since 9/11 ... JACK: You know what would really help me? If I could see his personal file. Could you get that for me? MRS. PETERSON: Sure. JACK: Thank you. MRS. PETERSON: Of course. (MRS. PETERSON leaves.) JACK: Anything interesting? MARTIN: No, not really. (MARTIN takes out a photograph of ANWAR SAMIR'S family. He hands it to JACK.) JACK: You notice how he went from respected doctor to suspected terrorist in the space of a five-minute conversation? MARTIN: I guess that's the world we live in. JACK: I guess. CUT TO: WHITEBOARD TIMELINE: 7A-NY-199454 "ANWAR SAMIR" (Camera zooms in on the photo of ANWAR SAMIR.) HARD CUT TO END OF TEASER ROLL TITLE CREDITS (COMMERCIAL SET) FADE IN. [EXT. NEW YORK CITY (STOCK) -- DAY] LEGEND: 41 HOURS MISSING SCENE #05: [INT. FBI - MISSING PERSONS UNIT -- DAY] (MARTIN stands in front of the Whiteboard that reads 7A-NY 199454 / "ANWAR SAMIR". He fills the rest of the team in on the basic information.) MARTIN: Dr. Anwar Samir: He's 30 years old single, came to New York in '95. Attended Columbia Med School. He was number two in his class. Third year intern at Lawrence Hospital. DANNY: Family? MARTIN: They're all back in Saudi Arabia. VIVIAN: Where's he live? MARTIN: Studio in Bay Ridge. It's a heavy middle eastern community. He's got an American girlfriend, Lindsey Randall. (He hands out a photo.) She's a med student at the hospital. She's on a plane back to New York. SAMANTHA: She know he's missing? MARTIN: No, not yet. She was in Chicago for an interview. DANNY: What about the airlines? MARTIN: Nothing from international. We're still waiting on domestic. VIVIAN: What's his VISA status? MARTIN: Met with ins nine months ago routine interview, and he was presumed no risk. JACK: Obviously this has to be handled with extreme sensitivity. We just do our jobs the way we normally do them let the conclusions take care of themselves. Martin, Samantha I want you to check Anwar's apartment and his girlfriend. Danny, I want you to do deep background. Vivian, you and I are going to check the hospital. (With their assignments, everyone stands up.) CUT TO: [EXT. NEW YORK CITY (STOCK) - DAY] SCENE #06: [INT. BAY RIDGE - SAMIR'S RESIDENCE - DAY] (MARTIN and SAMANTHA check out ANWAR SAMIR'S studio.) MARTIN: Hmm, very functional. SAMANTHA: Reminds me of a dorm room at Quantico. MARTIN: Good ol' Club Quantico. He wasn't exactly putting down roots, was he? SAMANTHA: Well, it's not like he had time -- all that studying. (Looking at the desk by the window, SAMANTHA visualizes ANWAR SAMIR with a cup of something to drink. He takes his seat at his desk and starts reading his book. End of visualization.) (SAMANTHA walks up to the desk and looks at the open book. MARTIN walks to the side of the desk and checks the messages on the answering machine.) (Answering machine beeps.) LINDSEY RANDALL: (from machine) Hey, Habiby, it's me. I just got in. I'm safe. I just wanted to hear your voice. Love you. MARTIN: Could be the girlfriend. (Machine beeps.) WOMAN: (from machine) Dr. Samir, this is the ER. Are you coming in today? (Machine beeps.) DR. FALK: Anwar, this is Dr. Falk. What is going on with you? Call the hospital. MARTIN: The hospital offers cheap housing two blocks away. Why does this guy choose to live all the way down here? SAMANTHA: Maybe he likes the neighborhood. (Camera holds on MARTIN.) CUT TO: SCENE #07: [INT. LAWRENCE HOSPITAL -- DAY] LEGEND: 42 HOURS MISSING (VIVIAN and JACK interview DR. FALK.) DR. FALK: Frankly, I don't know what you want me to tell you. I'm assuming if you are here that you must know something that we don't. VIVIAN: We heard from the some of the nurses that Dr. Samir was very upset when he left here on Wednesday. DR. FALK: The nurses said that? VIVIAN: Are you surprised? DR. FALK: He was generally not very demonstrative with his emotions. JACK: I understand you and he had a heated discussion that day. DR. FALK: (looks around) Who told you that? JACK: Did you or didn't you? DR. FALK: Well, yes. He'd applied for his residency at the Center for Disease Control and he asked me for a letter of recommendation. He approached me that day about it and I explained I couldn't write it. (Quick flashback to: ANWAR SAMIR and DR. FALK talk.) DR. ANWAR SAMIR: I don't understand. I have better grades than Elizabeth I get better reviews, I work more hours than her -- than all the interns here. DR. FALK: I'm sorry, Anwar, but there are other factors in this decision. DR. ANWAR SAMIR: Like what? DR. FALK: Your bedside manner is too good to waste at a research lab. DR. ANWAR SAMIR: I have never once heard of you talk about anyone's bedside manner. DR. FALK: I'm sorry, Anwar but even if I wrote the recommendation I don't think they'd accept you. I honestly believe Elizabeth has a better chance and I can only write one. (ANWAR SAMIR doesn't say anything. It becomes clear to him what DR. FALK is talking about.) DR. ANWAR SAMIR: I understand. DR. FALK: Good. DR. ANWAR SAMIR: Thank you. (Dr. SAMIR takes a deep breath and walks away. End of flashback. Resume to present.) VIVIAN: Dr. Falk, do you honestly believe the CDC would discriminate? DR. FALK: Nobody says that, but ... JACK: Do you think Samir was angry enough to quit? DR. FALK: Without telling anyone? Just blow off all these shifts? (shakes his head) No. CUT TO: WHITEBOARD TIMELINE: 11 AM - FIGHT WITH DR. FALK OVER CDC REC. SCENE #08: [INT. BAY RIDGE - SAMIR'S RESIDENCE -- DAY] (SAMANTHA reads the titles off of the books on the shelf in the back of the room. MARTIN looks at other books.) SAMANTHA: Neurology, toxicology, virology. MARTIN: The study of viruses. SAMANTHA: Well, that's not odd, considering he's a doctor. MARTIN: Here's some light reading: Dirty democracy. "How the U.S. Sends Its Blasphemers to Death", "Why Terrorists Keep Picking on the U.S.", "How the U.S. Has Perverted Dozens of Foreign Elections" and much, much more. SAMANTHA: "By Colin Blume." From Boston. MARTIN: A bit inflammatory, no? SAMANTHA: Last time I checked we still had freedom of the press. MARTIN: Look, I'm not condoning censorship but we've got a profile. SAMANTHA: Yeah, of a Saudi Arabian Doctor. That's all we have. MARTIN: Look, profiles aren't flawless but they exist for a reason. I mean, come on, we use them every day. (SAMANTHA picks up another book.) SAMANTHA: Oh, look, Pediatrics. Maybe he's a pedophile. (MARTIN sends her a look. He looks around and picks up a framed photograph of ANWAR SAMIR with LINDSEY RANDALL.) CUT TO: [EXT. NEW YORK CITY (STOCK) - DAY] SCENE #09: [INT. LINDSEY RANDALL'S RESIDENCE -- DAY] (MARTIN and SAMANTHA interview LINDSEY RANDALL.) LINDSEY RANDALL: How long has he been gone? SAMANTHA: As far as we can tell, no one's seen or heard from him since he left the hospital at 5:00 on Wednesday. LINDSEY RANDALL: Almost two days. SAMANTHA: Yeah. Did you see him at all on Wednesday? LINDSEY RANDALL: Yeah. Yeah, we were at the hospital. I was about to leave for Chicago and I guess he wanted to surprise me. (Quick flashback to: LINDSEY and ANWAR are sitting at a table at the hospital. ANWAR opens a small jewelry box and puts it on the table. Inside is an engagement ring.) ANWAR SAMIR: I want to marry you, Lindsey. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. (LINDSEY smiles.) LINDSEY RANDALL: I'm sorry, Habiby. I can't take it. Not now. ANWAR SAMIR: Why not? LINDSEY RANDALL: I don't even know where I'm going to be next year. I could be in Chicago and you could be here. ANWAR SAMIR: Whatever it is, we'll make it work. (He takes out the ring with the intention of putting it on her finger. He looks up at her.) I need you, Lindsey. (LINDSEY pulls her hand away slightly.) LINDSEY RANDALL: I love you, but ... (She looks at him and can't continue.) ANWAR SAMIR: You can't? (She doesn't say anything. ANWAR puts the ring back in the box and closes it. He looks at her.) ANWAR SAMIR: Right. LINDSEY RANDALL: Please don't be like that. ANWAR SAMIR: This has nothing to do with your parents, hmm? Your friends? What they'll say? LINDSEY RANDALL: You know that's not true. ANWAR SAMIR: Do I? (ANWAR stands up. End of flashback. Resume to present.) LINDSEY RANDALL: I left an hour later for the airport. I didn't see him again after that. SAMANTHA: Was this out of the blue or had you discussed marriage before? LINDSEY RANDALL: He had alluded to it. We used to joke that he was just using me to get a green card. SAMANTHA: Did he mention his meeting with Dr. Falk? LINDSEY RANDALL: No. No, what meeting? SAMANTHA: Well, Dr. Falk denied him for a recommendation. LINDSEY RANDALL: To what? SAMANTHA: To the CDC. (MARTIN watches LINDSEY. She looks from SAMANTHA to MARTIN, it becoming clear that she has no clue what they're talking about.) SAMANTHA: He didn't tell you? LINDSEY RANDALL: No. MARTIN: No? He'd been planning it for months. LINDSEY RANDALL: Well, he didn't say anything to me. MARTIN: Well, what did he tell you about his plans? LINDSEY RANDALL: I thought he was staying here in New York. MARTIN: What do you know about his family? LINDSEY RANDALL: (swallows) They're all in Saudi Arabia. His father's a teacher in Riyadh. MARTIN: What about his politics? (SAMANTHA looks at MARTIN. LINDSEY doesn't like this line of questioning.) LINDSEY RANDALL: What do you mean? MARTIN: Has he ever been critical of the American government? LINDSEY RANDALL: Haven't we all? MARTIN: In regards to the Middle East. (SAMANTHA looks away, quiet.) LINDSEY RANDALL: Look, what do you know that you're not telling me? MARTIN: Nothing. I'm just asking you a question. LINDSEY RANDALL: You think Anwar is a terrorist? SAMANTHA: Nobody's saying that. LINDSEY RANDALL: (angry at the implication) What are you saying, then? CUT TO: WHITEBOARD TIMELINE: 1 PM - LINDSEY REFUSES MARRIAGE. SCENE #10: [INT. FBI - MISSING PERSONS UNIT -- DAY] (VIVIAN looks at the Whiteboard Timeline, thinking. JACK is standing next to her.) VIVIAN: His mentor and his girlfriend both rejected him. Maybe he just took off for a couple of days. JACK: Well, maybe he's a long way from home he has access to pills, he checks into a motel and goes straight to paradise. VIVIAN: Just because he's a Muslim doesn't mean that it's easy for him to commit suicide. JACK: I'm not suggesting that. (DANNY walks up to the two holding some papers.) DANNY: Hey. I got something that I guarantee you're going to find interesting. Anwar did a six-week rotation at a biotech company last summer. I called over there to make sure that nothing unusual happened while he was working there. Turns out that four vials of Marburg disappeared right before he left. VIVIAN: What the hell is Marburg? DANNY: It's a viral fever. Think Ebola. CUT TO: (Camera Close up of the photo of ANWAR SAMIR.) FADE TO BLACK. (COMMERCIAL SET) FADE IN. [EXT. NEW YORK CITY (STOCK) - DAY] LEGEND 45 HOURS MISSING SCENE #11: [INT. FBI - MISSING PERSONS UNIT - DAY] (Everyone meets at the conference table. JACK walks in with ABNER HARRINGTON.) JACK: Okay, because of the delicate nature of this situation we'll be coordinating our efforts with the Joint Terrorism Task Force. Acting as Chief Liaison is Abner Harrington. ABNER HARRINGTON: Good afternoon. (They take their seats.) The vials of Marburg taken during Samir's tenure at Retrogen where embryonic strains. In order to be weaponized, they would need more development. MARTIN: Which he could have learned to do at the CDC. ABNER HARRINGTON: It's a possibility. JACK: It's also possible that this is much ado about nothing. When we went looking last fall there was a lot more anthrax missing than had actually been used. ABNER HARRINGTON: This could be the same thing. It's frightening how inexact the records of these places are. VIVIAN: From everything I know, Samir still doesn't fit the terrorist profile. He has an American girlfriend a high-profile career ... DANNY: Could be a Sleeper. ABNER HARRINGTON: At the highest levels with the most intelligent terrorists we have found sleepers on a ten- to twelve-year track. MARTIN: And with INS tightening its belt citizenship through marriage could be a pretty good cover. ABNER HARRINGTON: That's right. With his J-1 visa status he would have to leave the country. MARTIN: So, when a Sleeper is on that kind of a track and he gets derailed could there be reprisals from his sponsor? (An AGENT hands MARTIN a file. He puts the file on the table in front of him.) ABNER HARRINGTON: Sure, particularly if he failed in both parts of this mission. In this case, the CDC as well as marriage. That could explain why he took off in such a hurry. (MARTIN opens the file and looks at it.) SAMANTHA: This is all completely circumstantial. For all we know, he left work that day, got mugged and someone dumped him in the east river. MARTIN: Uh-uh, not likely. We just got Anwar's bank statements. Says here he made a $500 ATM withdrawal at 8:45 Thursday night. It's the night after he was last seen at the hospital. Look at the ATM surveillance photo. (MARTIN takes out the photo from the file and shows it to ABNER HARRINGTON. The photo was taken at 20:14:58 on 11-20-02. JACK watches quietly from the side.) MARTIN: There's someone standing behind him. (ABNER HARRINGTON hands the photo to JACK.) JACK: Well, the first thing we have to do is find out who this other person is in the photo. ABNER HARRINGTON: We'll run that through our database. (He stands and leaves the table.) JACK: Danny, why don't you canvas the area around the ATM see what you can find out. Viv, Samantha ... check the hospital. Martin ... (Everyone stands up with their assignments. JACK stands up and says quietly to MARTIN.) JACK: The reason that I invited the JTTF into our investigation is because it's the responsible thing to do. MARTIN: (nods) Yeah. JACK: It's not because I'm convinced Samir is a terrorist. Don't try and run something behind my back. Understood? (MARTIN looks surprised at JACK. JACK walks away.) CUT TO: SCENE #12: [INT. FBI - JACK'S OFFICE -- DAY] (SAMANTHA walks into JACK'S office.) SAMANTHA: Jack, I, um ... I think you're making a mistake. I think ... that you have jumped the gun bringing in JTTF. JACK: Yeah, well, that's my call. SAMANTHA: You're right, it is your call. But just ... think about it. I mean, after this investigation, do you think Anwar will be able to get a job in his field? Forget the CDC. He'll be lucky if the INS renews his VISA. JACK: It's not my problem. Look, if any of this is making you uncomfortable I can transfer you to another case. (Surprised, SAMANTHA doesn't say anything.) SAMANTHA: (stilted) No. I can manage. JACK: Good. SAMANTHA: Great. (SAMANTHA walks out of the office. JACK goes back to work.) CUT TO: [EXT. NEW YORK CITY (STOCK) - DAY] SCENE #13: [EXT. STREET -- DAY] (JACK and MARTIN get out of the car and cross the street.) MARTIN: You know I wasn't trying to go around you. The information came to me. I reported it to the team. I assumed you'd want Harrington to see it, too. JACK: Look, I just don't like the way you handled it in there. We are the Primaries in this case and as such, everything comes through me first. MARTIN: Fine. (JACK walks away. MARTIN follows.) CUT TO: SCENE #14: [INT. MOSQUE - DAY -- CONTINUOUS] (Inside, worshippers chant.) IMAM: (looking at the photo) Anwar I know, but I do not recognize the other man. Is Anwar in trouble? JACK: We're not sure. What can you tell us about him? IMAM: Would you mind taking off your shoes, please? JACK: It might be a better idea if we step outside. CUT TO: SCENE #15: [EXT. SIDEWALK - DAY -- CONTINUOUS] (They step outside.) IMAM: I have to say we've had to deal with vandalism people yelling obscenities sometimes even physical violence. And in all the while, we're the ones being investigated. JACK: I understand that in the past you've been less than cooperative with some of my colleagues. IMAM: If you were going to a church or a synagogue, would you expect them to give you a list of all their members? JACK: If I was investigating the IRA or the JDL, yes, I would. And they have. IMAM: Well, I believe things are being done in the name of national security which violate the constitution and threaten the same freedoms which you hope to defend. JACK: Look, sir, I agree that sometimes we all walk a very fine line. But we always conduct our business with the utmost respect and discretion. Unfortunately, obstruction inspires a suspicion. IMAM: Well, I can tell you that Anwar is not guilty of anything. JACK: When was the last time you saw him? IMAM: He was here yesterday morning. JACK: Did you talk to him? IMAM: He was very troubled out the way he's been treated. (Quick flashback to: ANWAR SAMIR is at the mosque talking with IMAM.) ANWAR SAMIR: It's not right; how hard I've worked. IMAM: Isn't there someone else you can speak to? Make an appeal? ANWAR SAMIR: No, it's done. He's my supervisor and he betrayed me. IMAM: There must be other positions in other places. ANWAR SAMIR: (upset) That's not the point. They don't want us here. IMAM: (puts a hand on his shoulder) So, you'll be with us here today and you'll pray. Maybe that will help. ANWAR SAMIR: No, it won't. IMAM: At least try. (ANWAR walks inside. End of flashback. Resume to present.) IMAM: But he was only here for 30 minutes and he left without saying good-bye. JACK: How often did he come here? IMAM: We haven't seen him for a few months but, uh ... before that, quite often. JACK: What do you think changed? IMAM: Anwar is torn -- between the world he knew and the world he's in. JACK: Do you think that he might be part of some radical element? IMAM: If I knew about something like that don't you think I would have reported it? JACK: I would hope so. IMAM: I love this country. And so does Anwar. And now I must turn to my people. As-salaam alaikum. (IMAM walks back inside the mosque.) MARTIN: Was that obstruction? JACK: No. That was frustration. MARTIN: Think he's being truthful about Anwar? JACK: I think he believes what he's saying. Whether it's the truth or not is another story. CUT TO: WHITEBOARD TIMELINE: 10 AM -- TALKS WITH IMAM AT MOSQUE SCENE #16: [INT. LAWRENCE HOSPITAL -- DAY] (SAMANTHA walks down the hallway toward VIVIAN as she finishes speaking with a NURSE. Another NURSE approaches them.) NURSE: Excuse me. You're with the FBI, right? VIVIAN: Right. NURSE: I need to talk to you. About two weeks ago I saw Dr. Samir talking with a man. It was right over there. (she points) And it seemed kind of suspicious, you know? VIVIAN: What did the man look like? (Quick flashback to: ANWAR SAMIR speaking with a man in the doorway to a patient's room. As the nurse passes by, bits and pieces of the conversation can be heard.) NURSE: (v.o.) Dark skin ... beard, I think. ANWAR SAMIR: ... They ought to blow up that thing. NURSE: And I know it ... it almost looked like they were tell and then when I walked by I could swear they were talking about blowing something up. (End of flashback. Resume to present.) VIVIAN: Who was? NURSE: They were -- Dr. Samir. VIVIAN: But you didn't hear what? NURSE: No. SAMANTHA: Why didn't you say something about it before? NURSE: I think I know Dr. Samir. I just figured that I was probably crazy. You know, paranoid from everything that's happened but ... I don't know. I hope I am crazy. I just thought I should tell you. (SAMANTHA shows the NURSE the ATM photo.) SAMANTHA: Can I ask you, is this the man? NURSE: No ... he looks familiar though. I ... I temped a couple of weeks back in the south wing ... I ... I feel like maybe I saw him there. Mmm. (She hands the photo back to SAMANTHA.) SAMANTHA: Thank you. VIVIAN: Yeah. Thanks. (VIVIAN and SAMANTHA walk away.) CUT TO: SCENE #17: [INT. BAR NEXT TO ATM -- DAY] (DANNY questions the BARKEEP.) DANNY: Yeah, these guys were here last night - you didn't happen to see them, did you? BARKEEP: Yeah. These guys were here last night. Sat in the back. DANNY: Did they drink? BARKEEP: You kidding? They drank their faces off. (Quick flashback to: The night before in the bar, ANWAR and the MAN in the ATM photo sit at the bar talking with one another.) BARKEEP: (v.o.) The more they drank, the more the spoke in Arabic. I practically had to drag them out of here at 4:00 in the morning. DANNY: Did anyone come in and see them? (End of flashback. Resume to present.) BARKEEP: No, uh-uh. Not that I saw anyway. DANNY: Did you overhear any of their conversation? BARKEEP: Not really. I think one of was trying to figure going to work today. DANNY: Then you did hear the conversation. BARKEEP: You're good. DANNY: (smiles) Yeah. BARKEEP: You're not saying these guys are terrorists? DANNY: No, I'm just trying to track them down. BARKEEP: Well, wherever they are, they're hung over. DANNY: (nods) Thank you. CUT TO: WHITEBOARD TIMELINE: 8:45 PM - AT BAR WITH ATM MAN SCENE #18: [INT. LAWRENCE HOSPITAL -- DAY] (MRS. PETERSON looks at the ATM photo. VIVIAN and SAMANTHA follow her as she walks.) MRS. PETERSON: That's Kamal Kahn, one of our orderlies. I had to fire him. SAMANTHA: When was that? MRS. PETERSON: Uh, Three months ago. VIVIAN: What for? MRS. PETERSON: He was stealing supplies. VIVIAN: Were he and Dr. Samir friends? MRS. PETERSON: I don't know if they saw much of each other outside of work. I used to see them eat lunch together. They worked together before Dr. Samir changed rotations. SAMANTHA: So, Dr. Samir must have been pretty upset when he was fired? MRS. PETERSON: Well, of course. Mean, we all were. It's never easy letting someone go. And Kamal certainly didn't make it any easier. (Quick flashback to: KAMAL KAHN is being escorted through the hallway by MRS. PETERSON and a couple of security guards.) MRS. PETERSON: Settle down, Mr. Kahn. (ANWAR SAMIR rushes up to them.) KAMAL KAHN: Anwar! Anwar! ANWAR SAMIR: What's going on? KAMAL KAHN: You're working for racists. MRS. PETERSON: I'm handling this Dr. Samir. ANWAR SAMIR: What happened? KAMAL KAHN: They're liars and racists. ANWAR SAMIR: Mrs. Peterson, there must be some mistake. MRS. PETERSON: Dr. Samir, please, step back. KAMAL KAHN: Don't trust them, Anwar. You can't trust these people! (KAMAL KAHN yells something in Arabic as they escort him out the front door. ANWAR SAMIR stands in the doorway watching them. End of flashback. Resume to present.) VIVIAN: What did Mr. Kahn steal? MRS. PETERSON: Just some cleaning supplies. Soap, bleach ... SAMANTHA: Ammonia? MRS. PETERSON: I think so. SAMANTHA: We're going to need to get his address. CUT TO: [EXT. NEW YORK CITY (STOCK) - DAY] SCENE #19: [INT. KAMAL KAHN'S RESIDENCE -- DAY] (The camera takes pictures of a large blood stain on the floor.) MARTIN: What's going on? SAMANTHA: 9-1-1 call came in at 2:25 from this apartment. NYPD responded, found the body; gunshot wound. MARTIN: Who was the victim? SAMANTHA: Kamal Kahn and Anwar's fingerprints are all over the apartment. (Camera holds on JACK.) CUT TO: (Camera zooms in on the Whiteboard photo of ANWAR SAMIR.) FADE TO BLACK. (COMMERCIAL SET) FADE IN. SCENE #20: [INT. KAMAL KAHN'S RESIDENCE -- DAY] (JACK looks around the place. MARTIN reports back to JACK.) MARTIN: Jack. Neighbor made a positive ID from the ATM photo. She saw Kamal and Anwar come in late last night drunk as skunks. JACK: Confirms what the bartender told Danny. (SAMANTHA reports back to JACK.) SAMANTHA: All the operator heard on the 911 call was a gunshot. A copy's being sent to auditory analysis. JACK: Anything on Kamal's personal effects? SAMANTHA: No, nothing. No wallet, no keys nothing. JACK: But there's blood everywhere. The desk, the nightstand, the bed. Anwar was definitely looking for something. MARTIN: I'm going to start digging into Kamal's background. (JACK'S cell phone rings.) JACK: (to MARTIN) Okay. (JACK answers his phone.) JACK: (to phone) Yeah. INTERCUT WITH: [INT. FBI - MISSING PERSONS UNIT] DANNY: We just got a call from Samir's supervisor, Dr. Falk. His doorman just saw Anwar outside his building waving a gun. (DANNY rushes out of the office and through the hallway.) JACK: Where's he live? DANNY: East 74th. I'm on my way. JACK: Okay. CUT TO: [EXT. NEW YORK CITY (STOCK) - NIGHT] SCENE #21: [EXT. DR. FALK'S BUILDING -- NIGHT] (DANNY interviews the DOORMAN.) DOORMAN: You really think this guy wanted to kill Dr. Falk? DANNY: Sir, just tell me what happened, okay? DOORMAN: He was here, less than an hour ago. Comes up to me and he's out of his mind or something. (Quick flashback to: The DOORMAN blows his whistle. ANWAR SAMIR walks up to the DOORMAN.) ANWAR SAMIR: Is Dr. Falk in? DOORMAN: (turns around) Who's asking? ANWAR SAMIR: Have you seen him today? DOORMAN: I'm not telling you anything, pal. So why don't you just step back ... (ANWAR SAMIR pulls out a gun.) ANWAR SAMIR: (yells) Where is he?! DOORMAN: D-d-don't get crazy on me, okay? Okay, uh ... I saw him this morning. He-he was on his way to the hospital about 9:00. (ANWAR SAMIR leaves. End of flashback. Resume to present.) DANNY: How did you know it was Dr. Samir? DOORMAN: I called Dr. Falk and described him. He knew right away who it was. CUT TO: WHITEBOARD TIMELINE: 6:30 PM - CHECKS ON DR. FALK AT HOME SCENE #22: [INT. FBI - MISSING PERSONS UNIT -- NIGHT] (SAMANTHA passes by MARTIN as he speaks with ABNER HARRINGTON.) ABNER HARRINGTON: How are we doing on the other man the one the nurse overheard? MARTIN: We're checking Samir's patients and associates. No leads yet. How'd you do on Kahn's reading material? (SAMANTHA puts her things down on her desk and turns to watch MARTIN with ABNER HARRINGTON.) ABNER HARRINGTON: According to the translators it's some pretty extreme fringe newspapers. He had them shipped Call me when that 911 tape comes in, will ya? (MARTIN doesn't say anything. He watches as ABNER HARRINGTON leaves. MARTIN turns around.) MARTIN: Sam, I want to show you something. (SAMANTHA walks toward MARTIN.) SAMANTHA: It's "Samantha". Nobody calls me "Sam". (MARTIN sits at his desk.) MARTIN: Jack calls you "Sam" all the time. SAMANTHA: Well, Jack's the boss. In case you hadn't noticed. MARTIN: Hey, look, if you got a problem just come out and say it, all right? SAMANTHA: Okay, I will. We all see what you've been doing with Harrington. MARTIN: Why do I get the feeling that you're profiling me? Ambitious, white male willing to do anything to get ahead including show up his coworkers and disrespect his boss. SAMANTHA: And potentially ruin an innocent man's life. MARTIN: With the evidence that we have now, you would have to bend over backwards to make this guy innocent. SAMANTHA: Innocent until proven guilty. That's how it goes right? MARTIN: Oh. Well, thank you for the brush-up, "Samantha". I still think you might want to take a look at this. Within the last month, Anwar wrote three checks for $1,000 each, made out to "cash." But the signature on the back isn't his. So I ran it against Kamal's from his employee record. (MARTIN shows SAMANTHA the signature comparison on the computer.) Does that look like a match to you? (SAMANTHA looks at the signatures.) SAMANTHA: Well, I'd get a handwriting expert to confirm but, yeah, it does. Could be a loan from one friend to another. MARTIN: Yeah. And one friend's dead. (SAMANTHA doesn't say anything. MARTIN stands up.) MARTIN: Oh, and by the way? I never showed this to Harrington. (MARTIN heads out of the office.) CUT TO: SCENE #23: [INT. FBI - JACK'S OFFICE] (JACK looks at MARTIN'S signature comparisons.) JACK: What do you make of this? MARTIN: Anwar gives Kamal money. Kamal funnels it to an extremist organization. JACK: Or...? MARTIN: Or he's been funding Kamal to execute an attack. Kamal gets cold feet, and Anwar eliminates him. JACK: And if all the fact patterns remain the same and he's not from Saudi Arabia what do you think? MARTIN: Well, if he was Colombian, I'd strongly consider a drug deal gone bad. Or if he was from Moscow I'd take a serious look at organized crime -- blackmail, prostitution. But this guy is from Saudi Arabia he's here on a J-1 VISA. And I am not doing my job unless I present these theories. (JACK doesn't say anything.) CUT TO: SCENE #24: [INT. FBI - MISSING PERSONS UNIT] (MARTIN walks into the office. He looks up and VIVIAN fills him in.) VIVIAN: Phone taps on Kamal's apartment just came in. Five minutes after the 911 call there was another call from there to the hospital pediatric wing. MARTIN: You know, Anwar's girlfriend Lindsey she works in pediatrics. CUT TO: SCENE #25: [INT. FBI - INTERVIEW ROOM] SAMANTHA: We know he called you this afternoon. Do you know this man? (SAMANTHA puts the photo on the table. LINDSEY looks down at it.) LINDSEY RANDALL: Yeah. MARTIN: Well, he's dead. Anwar killed him. (LINDSEY looks up at MARTIN. SAMANTHA sits down in the seat next to LINDSEY.) LINDSEY RANDALL: (shocked) He what? SAMANTHA: He shot him at point-blank range minutes before he called you. LINDSEY RANDALL: No. MARTIN: Yes. LINDSEY RANDALL: No. MARTIN: Listen to me, Lindsey -- your loyalty is honorable I time is running out for Anwar and you. Anwar is our main suspect and we are focusing our ... (The questioning continues.) [OBSERVATION ROOM] ABNER HARRINGTON: I thought you were going to let us take the lead on this, Jack. JACK: This is still a missing persons investigation. As such, we will conduct the interview. ABNER HARRINGTON: Okay. I will have to talk to her afterwards. JACK: Not a problem. Just as soon as we're done. SAMANTHA: (over speaker) Understand something, Lindsey. The moment you talked to him and didn't alert us, you screwed up. [INTERVIEW ROOM] SAMANTHA: If we walk out of this room without your cooperation, you will be charged with obstruction of a federal investigation and possibly as a co- conspirator in a terrorist plot. Do you understand that? Do you understand?! (Scared, LINDSEY starts to cry.) LINDSEY RANDALL: (shakes her head) He sounded so scared on the phone. I have never heard his voice sound like that before. (Quick flashback to: ANWAR SAMIR on the phone with LINDSEY RANDALL.) ANWAR SAMIR: Are you okay? INTERCUT WITH: (LINDSEY'S at the nurse's station in the hospital.) LINDSEY RANDALL: Yes. Yes, Anwar. The FBI has been looking for you. They've been asking me all kinds of questions. (ANWAR is panicked. KAMAL KAHN is dead on the floor and ANWAR'S hands are bloodied.) ANWAR SAMIR: I was just angry! I... I-I-I ended up here and everything went crazy. LINDSEY RANDALL: What? What went crazy? ANWAR SAMIR: It is ... it's too late. It's too late. LINDSEY RANDALL: Tell me what's going on. (In the distance, sirens blare.) ANWAR SAMIR: I have to go. LINDSEY RANDALL: Anwar ... Anw ... (ANWAR SAMIR hangs up the phone.) LINDSEY RANDALL: Anwar! (LINDSEY hangs up the phone. End of flashback. Resume to present.) LINDSEY RANDALL: (crying) It was all so jumbled. He said, "everything's gone crazy," and, uh ... "now it's too late. It's too late now." (MARTIN looks back at JACK.) SAMANTHA: Did he call you again? LINDSEY RANDALL: No. SAMANTHA: Tell us about Kamal Kahn. LINDSEY RANDALL: I never liked him. MARTIN: Why? LINDSEY RANDALL: He just gave me the creeps. He used to look at me funny and he hit on me one time. SAMANTHA: Does Anwar know? LINDSEY RANDALL: No, I never told him. MARTIN: Why not? LINDSEY RANDALL: Because he doesn't have that many friends as it is. And whether I like him or not, Kamal is his one connection to home. (MARTIN look at SAMANTHA.) [OBSERVATION ROOM] ABNER HARRINGTON: (quietly) Samir killed him, Jack. JACK: Could have been self-defense. ABNER HARRINGTON: Come on, you know there's enough here for me to take this case over. JACK: I don't think so. (JACK and ABNER HARRINGTON look at each other.) There's still too many questions. ABNER HARRINGTON: Do you really want me to go over your head? JACK: You're going to have to, Abner. (ABNER HARRINGTON nods and leaves. JACK'S phone rings. He answers it.) JACK: Yeah? INTERCUT WITH: [INT. LAWRENCE HOSPITAL] (All around her, hospital personnel rush about to get patients out to safety.) VIVIAN: Jack, it's me. Samir just called in a bomb threat to the hospital JACK: How do you know it was Samir? VIVIAN: He identified himself. JACK: (from phone) I'm on my way. FADE TO BLACK. (COMMERCIAL SET) FADE IN. [EXT. NEW YORK CITY (STOCK) - DAY] SCENE #26: [INT. FBI - MISSING PERSONS UNIT -- DAY] (DANNY, VIVIAN and JACK walk into the office.) DANNY: The bomb squad swept all 18 floors and the basement -- they found nothing. VIVIAN: NYPD's canvassing the area. JTTF's interviewing hospital staff. DANNY: Why is Harrington all over this? Is he the Primary? JACK: As long as it's a terrorism investigation, yes. DANNY: Great. (They sit at the conference table while SAMANTHA fills them in.) SAMANTHA: Okay, listen to this: Kamal Kahn had a storage space in Bayville. I called the manager. A guy matching Anwar's description was there last night about an hour before the bomb threat. That must be why Anwar took Kamal's keys. JACK: Why don't you and Danny go check that out. SAMANTHA: Harrington? JACK: We'll call him, if we find anything. SAMANTHA: Okay. (SAMANTHA and DANNY leave the office.) VIVIAN: Why would he call in a bomb threat when there's no bomb? JACK: I don't know. Why would he not show up for work? Why would he kill his friend? Why would he call his girlfriend afterwards? Why did he show up to Dr. Falk's apartment waving a gun? It's very erratic. This guy's all over the map. CUT TO: [EXT. LINDSEY'S BUILDING - DAY] LEGEND: LORD'S HOSPITAL RESIDENTS' DORMITORIES SCENE #27: [INT. LINDSEY'S APARTMENT - DAY] (The phone rings. MARTIN motions for LINDSEY to wait as he turns the tape recorder on. He signals for LINDSEY to pick up the phone.) LINDSEY RANDALL: Hello. (pause) Oh, hi, mom. Yeah, um, look, can I ... I'm right in the middle of something. Can I give you a call back? Yeah, I'm fine. Okay. Bye. (MARTIN turns off the machine. He clears his throat.) LINDSEY RANDALL: None of this makes any sense. MARTIN: Lindsey, you know, if he killed Kamal in self-defense -- if he's innocent, why hasn't he turned himself in? LINDSEY RANDALL: Because he doesn't think that anyone's going to believe him. He has spent the last year of his life walking around on the street, in the airports everywhere he goes thinking everyone is looking at him. He doesn't trust us. He doesn't trust anyone. (Camera holds on MARTIN.) CUT TO: SCENE #28: [INT. -- DAY] LEGEND: STASH SELF STORAGE BAYVILLE, NEW YORK (Hallway view of the storage being opened.) (Inside, the FBI AGENTS look at the electronic and cleaning materials within.) SAMANTHA: (to DANNY) Hey. Someone was making a bomb. (SAMANTHA sighs. Behind her is a work station with electronic parts spread out on it.) CUT TO: SCENE #29: [INT. FBI - OFFICE -- DAY] AGENT SALMAN: This is Anwar's 911 call. DISPATCH: (on phone) 911. (From the recording, the man speaks his native language.) AGENT SALMAN: "Tell me what you've done. Tell me what you've done." That's Anwar. We matched his voice print with his medical chart recording. DISPATCH: (on phone) Hello? 911. Do you need assistance? AGENT SALMAN: This is Kamal: "I'm doing it for both of us, brother. They deserve what they get." "I never asked you to do anything. Tell me what you've done, now!" (On the recording, they hear a scuffle. A Man yells. There's a gunshot. Then, Anwar starts shouting.) ANWAR SAMIR: (on phone) Kamal! DISPATCH: (on phone) The police department and ambulance are on their way. Hello? Please stay on the line. Help is on the way. ANWAR SAMIR: (on phone) Kamal! JACK: Can you make out what he's saying? AGENT SALMAN: (translating) "Kamal, what have you done? "That's insane." AGENT SALMAN: (translating) "One, two, three, four..." JACK: (whispering) He's counting. (to AGENT SALMAN) Can you isolate that? Can you run that back? (listening) He's counting. Why is he counting? AGENT SALMAN: "One, two, three, four..." JACK: CPR ... he's giving him CPR. CUT TO: SCENE #30: [INT. FBI -- HALLWAY] (JACK and VIVIAN walk down the hallway.) JACK: Kamal Kahn said "I'm doing this for both of us." He sounds like an angry loner that wanted to get revenge for both of them. VIVIAN: And Anwar's trying to stop him. First he calls Lindsey, then he goes and tries to see Dr. Falk to make sure they're both okay. Then he checks out the storage area -- sees that Kamal was making a bomb and calls the hospital. JACK: But where's the bomb? It's not at the hospital; it's not at Dr. Falk's. VIVIAN: Hey, didn't Lindsey say that Kamal once tried to make a pass at her and she turned him down? CUE SOUND: (PRELAP) ALARM CUT TO: SCENE #31: [INT. RANDALL'S RESIDENCE -- DAY] (LINDSEY RANDALL turns around as soon as the building alarm starts blaring. MARTIN looks up and around.) (LINDSEY looks at MARTIN. MARTIN puts his cup down and stands up.) CUT TO: SCENE #32: [INT. STAIRWELL -- DAY] (MARTIN and LINDSEY head down the stairwell along with the other building's residents. MARTIN's phone rings. He answers it.) MARTIN: (on phone) Jack ... What? What? I can't hear you. The damn fire alarm's going off. I'll call you when I get downstairs. (MARTIN puts his phone away.) CUT TO: SCENE #33: [EXT. LINDSEY RANDALLS' BUILDING - DAY] (Outside the building, officers and other emergency personnel cars gather. Sirens wail. Tires screech. People run out of the building.) (Police cars stop in front of the building. OFFICERS get out to assist the people running out of the building.) (ABNER HARRINGTON runs toward the building. A WOMAN runs out of the building and straight toward him.) STUDENT (WOMAN): There's a guy inside with a gun! He's got a bomb! (ABNER HARRINGTON runs back toward the FBI line and speaks into his microphone.) ABNER HARRINGTON: (to his mic) Confirm gun in the lobby and bomb threat. I have swat 20s here, I need 30s as backup. CUT TO: SCENE #34: [INT. BUILDING] (MARTIN and LINDSEY reach the building lobby along with other residents. The alarm continues to blare.) MARTIN: Take it easy, keep moving. Take it easy. LINDSEY RANDALL: (pointing to front door) This way. (As they turn to go out the front door, LINDSEY hears a familiar voice yelling in the lobby.) ANWAR SAMIR: There's a bomb in the building! You've got to get out of the building! (She turns around to see ANWAR SAMIR yelling frantically and waving a gun in his hand. She takes a step toward him.) LINDSEY RANDALL: Anwar! (MARTIN grabs LINDSEY'S wrist to keep her back. He raises his gun and points it at ANWAR SAMIR.) MARTIN: FBI! ANWAR SAMIR: (turns around and sees MARTIN) Listen ... MARTIN: FBI! FBI. Drop the gun. (LINDSEY takes a step toward ANWAR. MARTIN pulls her back.) LINDSEY RANDALL: Anwar ... what are you doing? CUT TO: SCENE #35: [EXT. BUILDING] (The SNIPER'S set up just outside the building. He looks through his scope and sees MARTIN pulling LINDSEY back behind him.) ZERO-ONE (SNIPER): (to mic) Zero-one, in position. (JACK and the rest of his TEAM drive up in their car. JACK gets out of the car and sees ABNER HARRINGTON.) JACK: What's the situation? ABNER HARRINGTON: We were a block away at the hospital. We got a call someone was waving a gun around the lobby and yelling about a bomb. It's Samir. He's in a face off with your man Fitzgerald. (JACK looks through the binoculars and sees ANWAR SAMIR with MARTIN and LINDSEY inside the building lobby. MARTIN keeps pulling LINDSEY back behind him while keeping his gun on ANWAR SAMIR.) (JACK removes the binoculars and looks at the situation inside.) CUT TO: SCENE #36: [INT. BUILDING LOBBY] (MARTIN continues to hold the gun on ANWAR SAMIR while trying to keep LINDSEY behind him. ANWAR holds the gun pointed up and to the side.) ANWAR SAMIR: Both of you, get out of the building. There's a bomb in the building! MARTIN: Anwar, drop the gun! CUT TO: SCENE #37: [EXT. BUILDING] (JACK and ABNER HARRINGTON watch MARTIN, ANWAR and LINDSEY inside the building.) ABNER HARRINGTON: I've got snipers in position waiting for the green light. JACK: Okay, I've heard the 911 tapes. He killed Kamal Kahn in self-defense. Fitzgerald doesn't have all the information. CUT TO: SCENE #38: [INT. BUILDING LOBBY] ANWAR SAMIR: (yelling) Don't you understand me? There's a bomb in the building. MARTIN: Put the weapon down. CUT TO: SCENE #39: [EXT. BUILDING] ABNER HARRINGTON: For all we know, this guy has got a bomb hooked up to a dead man switch or a remote. JACK: I just want you to give my agent ... just give him time to defuse the situation. Can somebody turn the damn alarm off?! CUT TO: SCENE #40: [INT. BUILDING LOBBY] MARTIN: Anwar, put your gun down, now! ANWAR SAMIR: You've got to get out of here. (LINDSEY takes a step toward.) LINDSEY RANDALL: Anwar, stop it! (MARTIN pulls LINDSEY back behind him.) MARTIN: Lindsey, get out. LINDSEY RANDALL: (to MARTIN) No! CUT TO: SCENE #41: [EXT. BUILDING] ABNER HARRINGTON: Look, you're asking me for time. How much time do you think we have before that bomb goes off? JACK: I don't know. ABNER HARRINGTON: You want me to risk the life of your agent the life of all these students, based on what you think you know? JACK: Of course, I don't want to risk it. CUT TO: SCENE #42: [INT. BUILDING] ANWAR SAMIR: Lindsey, please! (LINDSEY takes a step forward. MARTIN keeps pulling her back.) LINDSEY RANDALL: I am not leaving! (MARTIN doesn't lower his weapon.) ANWAR SAMIR: There is a bomb! CUT TO: SCENE #43: [EXT. BUILDING] [SCOPE VIEW] (MARTIN pulls LINDSEY behind him while keeping his gun on ANWAR SAMIR.) (The sniper keeps his finger on the trigger, carefully keeping an eye on the situation inside and his scope on ANWAR SAMIR.) ZERO-ONE (SNIPER): Do I have a green light? (Through his binoculars, JACK monitors the situation inside the building trying to assess what's going on.) ABNER HARRINGTON: (quietly) You know the protocol here, Jack. We do not have a choice. (JACK lowers his binoculars.) Now, what are we going to do? It's your call, Jack. (JACK takes a moment to think about it.) JACK: Go ahead. ABNER HARRINGTON: Zero-one, green light. CUT TO: SCENE #44: [INT. BUILDING LOBBY] ANWAR SAMIR: Lindsey, please! LINDSEY RANDALL: I'm not leaving. (The alarm stops blaring. MARTIN glances up but doesn't take his gun off of ANWAR. ANWAR turns around and looks around.) MARTIN: Okay, look. (MARTIN pulls LINDSEY back behind him.) (to ANWAR) We're all going to walk out of here together. (ANWAR looks at MARTIN.) ANWAR SAMIR: (a bit calmer) The bomb ... it's-it's in the building. MARTIN: I believe you, but let them handle it. (MARTIN motions behind him indicating the officers outside.) CUT TO: SCENE #45: [EXT. BUILDING] (JACK watches.) CUT TO: SCENE #46: [INT. BUILDING LOBBY.] (LINDSEY swallows and looks at ANWAR.) LINDSEY RANDALL: Please do what he says. ANWAR SAMIR: Kamal did this. He put a bomb in the building I was just trying to get everybody out of ... MARTIN: (interrupting) Okay, Anwar, look at me. Let's put our guns down first. One thing at a time. (MARTIN lowers his weapon.) (ANWAR also lowers his weapon.) ANWAR SAMIR: Okay. I-I-I didn't do anything wrong. MARTIN: (reassuring) I know. I know. ANWAR SAMIR: Okay? Okay, I was just trying to get everyone out of the building. CUT TO: SCENE #47: [EXT. BUILDING] ABNER HARRINGTON: Zero-one, do you have a shot? ZERO-ONE (SNIPER): Zero-one, negative. [SCOPE VIEW] (MARTIN stands in front of ANWAR with no clear shot at him.) CUT TO: SCENE #48: [INT. BUILDING LOBBY] (MARTIN again tries to get ANWAR to lower his weapon. MARTIN lowers his weapon.) MARTIN: Come on, man, please. Just lower your gun. Just drop the gun. (ANWAR slowly lowers his weapon also. ANWAR looks at LINDSEY and once again raises his gun. He also takes a step to the side toward her.) ANWAR SAMIR: Lindsey, please ... MARTIN: (desperate) No, don't do that! (MARTIN tries to get ANWAR'S attention.) CUT TO: SCENE #49: [EXT. BUILDING] (The SNIPER has a clear shot at ANWAR SAMIR and takes it. The gun fires. The building glass breaks and ANWAR falls to the ground.) (MARTIN turns around to look at the agents behind him.) MARTIN: (soundless) NO! (Camera lingers on JACK.) (Inside, MARTIN immediately kneels down next to ANWAR SAMIR who is still on the ground unmoving. LINDSEY rushes over toward ANWAR. MARTIN puts his gun away, both of them kneeling over ANWAR SAMIR.) (JACK stares unblinking straight ahead at the building in front of him. ABNER HARRINGTON turns to look at JACK. He puts a hand on JACK'S shoulder and walks away.) (JACK continues to stare straight ahead at the building. Camera lingers on JACK.) (ABNER HARRINGTON makes his way toward the building. JACK closes his eyes and lowers his head. He tosses the phone onto the car and wipes his eyes.) (Inside, armed agents are entering the building. MARTIN and LINDSEY are still kneeling over ANWAR SAMIR. A couple of armed agents pull LINDSEY away from ANWAR. MARTIN picks up ANWAR'S gun and stands up. A couple of agents linger, their guns pointed at ANWAR'S unmoving body.) SCENE #50: [EXT. BUILDING] (The bagged body is wheeled away on the gurney. MARTIN walks up to LINSEY who stands next to SAMANTHA.) LINDSEY RANDALL: Did they find the bomb? MARTIN: (quietly) It was in the basement. They disarmed it. (LINDSEY starts to cry.) MARTIN: (softly) I'm sorry. (MARTIN turns and walks away. In the doorway, ANWAR SAMIR speaks with TOMMY'S dad.) ANWAR SAMIR: White blood cell counts are really good now. I'd like to have Tommy come back in a few weeks and have our oncologist look at him but this looks good. (smiling as he looks in the room) He'll be up and swinging his bat again in no time. TOMMY'S DAD: (grateful) Thank, thanks a lot, Doc. Man, I don't know how to thank you. Wait a sec, you like the Mets, right? I got season tickets. ANWAR SAMIR: At Shea? Are you kidding me? That place is a nightmare. All that jet noise. (leans in) They ought to blow up that place and start over and build a new one like Rigley Field ... LYRICS: ... I can't even remember what it was I came here to get away from / Don't even hear a murmur of a prayer ... (The NURSE walks down the hallway.)
