APARTMENT - NIGHT] (Through the rain stained window, we watch LINDA SCHMIDT cry.) LYRICS: ["Trouble", by Coldplay] oh, no, what's this? / A spiderweb and I'm caught in the middle / so I turned to run ... (She pulls a tissue from the holder, sits on the bed and cries.) (There's a knock on the door. It opens.) VERONICA: Linda? (VERONICA opens the door and lingers in the doorway. LINDA stops crying and turns around.) LINDA SCHMIDT: Oh, hey. VERONICA: What's the matter? LINDA SCHMIDT: I'm okay. It's nothing. VERONICA: Linda ... LINDA SCHMIDT: People aren't who you think they are, that's all. VERONICA: What are you talking about? (LINDA takes a deep breath and stands up. She finishes packing.) LINDA SCHMIDT: Men, Veronica. You know, the other species? The ones that lie and always lets you down? VERONICA: Mmm. Them. LINDA SCHMIDT: Listen to me, sound like a bitter, old hag. It's fine. It's life. VERONICA: (nods) You want to talk about it? (LINDA zips up her suitcase and lifts it off of the bed.) LINDA SCHMIDT: When I get back. CUT TO: SCENE #02: [INT. APARTMENT - HALLWAY -- NIGHT] (VERONICA and LINDA exit the bedroom. LINDA totes the overnight suitcase behind her.) LINDA SCHMIDT: Water my plants for me? VERONICA: Don't I always? (LINDA heads out. VERONICA lingers in the living room, her back against the wall.) VERONICA: Have a safe flight. LINDA SCHMIDT: Thanks. (As LINDA walks out of the apartment, she vanishes.) CUT TO: SCENE #03: [EXT. -- DAY] (DANNY walks past the parked cars toward SAMANTHA and a car that the police and CSU have been looking at.) DANNY: Morning, hot stuff. SAMANTHA: Good morning to you. Late night last night? DANNY: A man's got to do. SAMANTHA: Yeah? Who's the lucky? DANNY: I don't kiss and tell, you know that. What do we have here? SAMANTHA: All right, we got Linda Schmidt, 32, single, flight attendant. She lives on East 38th with two roommates. Both members of the friendly skies. DANNY: How long she been gone? SAMANTHA: (looking at her notes) Well, one of her roommates saw her pack up and head out about 7:00 P.M. Night before last, headed for a late-night flight to Rome. Never made it to the airport. DANNY: NYPD find this car? SAMANTHA: Yeah, about an hour ago. We got a carryon suitcase in the front. Fresh blood on the back seat, and a knotted stocking on the front seat. DANNY: What's with that knotted stocking? SAMANTHA: Maybe for strangling. DANNY: Is the blood hers? SAMANTHA: Forensics will let us know in a couple hours. DANNY: She was on her way to Kennedy? How'd she end up down here? SAMANTHA: Something happened on the way, and they dumped the car here. DANNY: Oh, something definitely happened. If that's her blood, there's only one question: Where'd they dump the body? SAMANTHA: You are such a pessimist. She could have been assaulted and kidnapped for all we know. DANNY: I bet that's what you told the cops, right? SAMANTHA: Yeah. Until a body is found, Linda Schmidt is ours. CUT TO: WHITEBOARD TIMELINE (A photograph of LINDA SCHMIDT is added to the whiteboard.) FLASH TO WHITE END OF TEASER ROLL TITLE CREDITS. (COMMERCIAL SET) FADE IN. SCENE #04: [INT. APARTMENT -- DAY] LEGEND: 38 HOURS MISSING (JACK interviews VERONICA, LINDA SCHMIDT'S roommate.) JACK: Uh, this man she was crying about, you have no idea who he is? VERONICA: Look, she was dating somebody recently, but she didn't tell me much about him, and I didn't want to push. JACK: You never met him? VERONICA: (sighs) I don't even know his name. Or what he does. JACK: You said earlier that she left here at 7:00 for a midnight flight. Is there any possibility that she was stopping somewhere on the way to the airport? VERONICA: I don't think she would have been too into socializing with the mood she was in. JACK: Uh-huh. VERONICA: Look, our other roommate Walter, he'll be back later from Toronto. He might know more. JACK: Walter? What's Walter's last name? VERONICA: Pagon. CUT TO: SCENE #05: [INT. LINDA SCHMIDT'S APARTMENT - BEDROOM - DAY -- CONTINUOUS] (MARTIN and SAMANTHA go through LINDA SCHMIDT'S bedroom. MARTIN looks through a small jewelry box. SAMANTHA leans over the bed going through LINDA SCHMIDT'S laptop computer.) MARTIN: Mmm, she's in AA. One day at a time. (He holds up a chain. He puts it back in the box and covers it.) MARTIN: So, what do you think about that? SAMANTHA: Turning everything over to a higher power? Hey, like John Lennon says, "Whatever gets you through the night." (MARTIN walks over to SAMANTHA.) MARTIN: Anything interesting? SAMANTHA: Yep. She was on an internet dating service. (Camera holds on a page for Are You My Love[dot]com. CUT TO: SCENE #06: [INT. FBI - MISSING PERSONS UNIT -- DAY] (VIVIAN sits with MRS. SCHMIDT, LINDA'S mother.) MRS. SCHMIDT: I'm so grateful that you people are here, I really am. But I just don't understand how this could be happening. I mean, do you have any idea where she might be? VIVIAN: We're still just gathering information. MRS. SCHMIDT: But finding her car ... now, that's something, right? VIVIAN: We hope so. Do you have any idea what she might have been doing in that area MRS. SCHMIDT: Maybe it was this man that she was seeing. I don't know. VIVIAN: What man? MRS. SCHMIDT: It was all just this big secret. I don't get it. She seemed so happy with him. I saw her just last week and, I mean, she was in such a good mood. (Quick flashback to: MRS. SCHMIDT and LINDA SCHMIDT exit a store and walk down the sidewalk after a day of shopping.) MRS. SCHMIDT: So, you sure? LINDA SCHMIDT: Yeah, everything's great, really great. MRS. SCHMIDT: So, when am I going to get meet this mystery man? LINDA SCHMIDT: Oh, we'll see. MRS. SCHMIDT: I don't understand why you won't tell me anything about him. LINDA SCHMIDT: I just don't want to jinx it, that's all. MRS. SCHMIDT: Well, as long as you're happy, I'm happy. LINDA SCHMIDT: I am. I really am. MRS. SCHMIDT: Well, now you at least have to tell me what he does for a living. LINDA SCHMIDT: He's a pilot. MRS. SCHMIDT: Really? How old is he? LINDA SCHMIDT: Mom. MRS. SCHMIDT: All right, I'm sorry. I'm just interested. LINDA SCHMIDT: I know you are and I appreciate it. I just want to be careful. (End of flashback. Resume to present.) VIVIAN: Do you know when she started seeing this pilot? MRS. SCHMIDT: I don't know. A couple of months, maybe. MRS. SCHMIDT: I don't think she could keep a secret from me any longer than that. CUT TO: WHITEBOARD TIMELINE: 2 DAYS AGO - TELLS MOM ABOUT PILOT SCENE #07: [INT. FBI - JACK'S OFFICE -- DAY] LEGEND: 40 HOURS MISSING (Camera opens on "LINDA LOVER"'s personal information at Are You My Love [dot] com. JACK is at his desk looking through the information on his computer. VIVIAN walks in.) VIVIAN: Forensics just came in. The blood in the car is hers. And the stocking matches some of the nylons found in her apartment. We should get DNA results in a few hours. How is the wonderful world of internet dating? JACK: Well, there's no better way to get to know your victim than to hear what she has to say about herself. LINDA SCHMIDT (on computer): Well, I think I'm funny, and charming and sensitive. And I'm very romantic, and I love to travel, and generous and warm. (laughs) Oh, god, this is so embarrassing. JACK: This is what I have to look forward to. I'm going to take one of these out. What do you think of this: Uh, Jumpin' Jack Flash. Divorced, two kids, bad knee, grumpy workaholic. It's a pretty good sell, right? VIVIAN: My husband's looking better everyday. JACK: Yeah, I'll bet. She hasn't logged on for about nine months. But she hasn't canceled her account either. VIVIAN: Maybe she likes getting e-mails. JACK: Well, I got the techs working on it, but doesn't look like she's had any hits. Not the last few months at least. How we doing with the pilot? VIVIAN: Danny and Samantha are into it. We'll let you know. CUT TO: SCENE #08: [INT. AIRPORT -- LOUNGE] LEGEND: 47 HOURS MISSING (DANNY interviews JOEL LANDERS, a pilot.) DANNY: We heard she was dating a pilot. You have idea who that could be? JOEL LANDERS: I don't know who told you that, but I don't buy it. DANNY: Why not? JOEL LANDERS: Because it's a small, small world around here and that's very tough to keep quiet. DANNY: You know, I heard that you and her had quite a scene here the other day. Some people went as far as saying that it looked like a lover's quarrel. You want to tell me about that? JOEL LANDERS: Look ... it's not for a lack of trying on my part -- she wasn't interested. Not anymore. (Quick flashback to: LINDA SCHMIDT and JOEL sitting down and talking.) LINDA: Been a while. JOEL LANDERS: Yeah. You seem pretty good these days. LINDA: Yeah, I am. You? JOEL LANDERS: I miss our times together. LINDA: Yeah, well, another era. (JOEL Chuckles ) JOEL LANDERS: You seeing somebody? (She chuckles.) JOEL LANDERS: Who is it? LINDA: Nobody you know. JOEL LANDERS: Now, it's not serious enough that you and I can't ... you know. LINDA: Oh, Joel. JOEL LANDERS: What? I care about you. LINDA: Those days are over. JOEL LANDERS: Why? LINDA: You're married. JOEL LANDERS: You know, you were a lot more fun when you were drinking. (She can't believe he just said that. She stands up to leave.) JOEL LANDERS: Linda ... (He grabs her wrist to stop her. She turns around and slaps him on the cheek. He lets go. She walks away.) JOEL LANDERS: (v.o.) ... it was a stupid thing to do, but I was pissed off. (End of flashback. Resume to present.) DANNY: So, you grabbed her arm. JOEL LANDERS: I wanted to apologize. DANNY: Always get physical when things don't go your way? JOEL LANDERS: That wasn't it. I ... DANNY: You love her. JOEL LANDERS: I don't know. (JOEL chuckles. His smile fades.) JOEL LANDERS: Maybe. CUT TO: WHITEBOARD TIMELINE: 2 DAYS -- FIGHTS WITH PILOT, JOEL LANDERS SCENE #09: [INT. FBI - JACK'S OFFICE -- DAY] (JACK is still going through the personal information at the site.) LINDA SCHMIDT: (on computer) Oh, okay, that's it for my qualities. Okay, pet peeves: I'd have to say, when a man projects his own issues onto me that's definitely one. When a man is unable to own the feelings which belong to him. But I guess that's kind of the same thing, though. (JACK sits there and thinks for a moment. He gets up and leaves the office.) CUT TO: SCENE #10: [INT. FBI - MISSING PERSONS UNIT - DAY -- CONTINUOUS] (JACK walks into the office and heads for MARTIN'S desk.) JACK: Do you have a list of her checks? MARTIN: Some. Looking for anything in particular? JACK: Yeah, a shrink. MARTIN: All right. (MARTIN riffles through the files on his desk.) MARTIN: Yeah, I think there was one. Let's see. Yeah, here's one made out to an unspecified Dr. Aaron Morrison. A hundred bucks, but that was a month ago, nothing since. JACK: What about before that? (MARTIN checks.) MARTIN: Yeah, here we go. Another one six weeks ago. JACK: Run that through for me, will you? [(MARTIN enters the name into the computer. He comes back with the following results.) AARON MORRISON 342 Perry Street AARON MORRISON 1415 East 43rd Street AARON MORRISON 1 West Houston Street AARON MORRISON 636 Kings Street ] MARTIN: We got four Aaron Morrisons in New York City. JACK: Business or residential? MARTIN: Wait a minute. Let's check out her cell phone records here. (MARTIN picks up a paper and looks through the list.) MARTIN: Yeah, here we go. She made a call to an A. Morrison, in Manhattan three days ago. It was a 35-minute call. Yep, there's the match. (MARTIN makes the phone call. The phone rings. An answering machine picks up.) DR. AARON MORRISON: (answering machine) You've reached the office of Dr. Morrison, clinical psychologist. I'm either with a patient or out of the office ... (MARTIN cancels the call.) JACK: Sometimes I know a thing or two. (MARTIN nods. JACK leaves the office.) CUT TO: SCENE #11: [INT. DR. AARON MORRISON -- DAY] (JACK walks into the office.) JACK: Should I sit, or should I lie down? DR. AARON MORRISON: Whatever makes you comfortable. JACK: It's been many years since I've done this. Perhaps I should, uh, consider doing it again. DR. AARON MORRISON: Well, I think everyone ought to, but then I'm biased. What can I do for you, Agent Malone? JACK: I need to ask you some questions about Linda Schmidt. DR. AARON MORRISON: Has something happened to her? JACK: She's been missing for two days. We found her car with blood in it. DR. AARON MORRISON: Oh, my god. (They both sit down.) JACK: Could you tell me about the last time that you saw her? DR. AARON MORRISON: Um ... I saw her for a session a month ago. JACK: A month ago. And, uh ... what did she speak about? DR. AARON MORRISON: I'm sorry, I would like to help you, but you know that anything that's said inside here is entirely confidential. JACK: Yes, I understand. But I think there are some questions that I can ask, especially under the circumstances. (DR. MORRISON sighs.) DR. AARON MORRISON: Try me. JACK: Where there any men in Linda's life that would present a danger to her? DR. AARON MORRISON: No. Not that I can think of. JACK: Any women? DR. AARON MORRISON: No. JACK: Was she a danger to herself? DR. AARON MORRISON: No. JACK: Even if she'd started drinking again? DR. AARON MORRISON: Any alcoholic would be. JACK: Did she ever talk to you about the new man in her life? DR. AARON MORRISON: I'm sorry. That one I can't answer. JACK: We know that she called you three days ago, and that you had a 35-minute conversation. Can you tell me what that was about? Was she in trouble? Was it an emergency? DR. AARON MORRISON: There's nothing in that phone call that I can repeat to you. I'm sorry I would like to help you more. JACK: Well, if there is anything that you do think you can say to us ... please give me call. (JACK digs in his pocket and hands DR. MORRISON a business card.) DR. AARON MORRISON: I will. JACK: Thank you, doctor. DR. AARON MORRISON: Thank you. (They shake hands. JACK leaves.) CUT TO: SCENE #12: [INT. FBI - MISSING PERSONS UNIT -- DAY] (MARTIN goes through credit card charges on the computer. He sees something.) MARTIN: Hey, Viv. (VIVIAN turns around and looks at MARTIN. VIVIAN moves to check out what MARTIN'S looking at.) MARTIN: Check this out. This is Linda Schmidt's credit card charges. This just came in. The eon hotel bar. She closed her tab at 11:45 P.M. The night she disappeared. VIVIAN: 11:45. She wasn't planning on catching that flight. MARTIN: She's having guy troubles, blows off her job, heads out for a night on the town. And that bar is a major pick-up place. VIVIAN: How would you know? MARTIN: I hear things. VIVIAN: Twenty-four dollars. Doesn't sound like she was drinking 7-up. MARTIN: Not unless she was drinking six of them. VIVIAN: Wait a minute. Where is The Eon? MARTIN: East 27th street. (VIVIAN goes back to her desk and pulls out a file.) VIVIAN: East 27th street. There was a woman, same age as Linda, murdered three weeks ago. She was last seen at The Platinum Hotel bar. MARTIN: Yeah, it's right around the corner from the eon. (She goes through the file and finds something.) VIVIAN: Homicide, homicide, homicide ... here it is. Jessica Weaver, strangled with a ... knotted stocking. Same age, same physical type. MARTIN: NYPD never found the killer? VIVIAN: Says here it's still open. MARTIN: Wow. (VIVIAN nods her head.) (Cut to a series of flashes: * Blood on the seat of the car; * A knotted stocking on the car seat; * Blood on the seat of the car; * A discarded high-heeled shoe on the car floor.) FADE TO BLACK. (COMMERCIAL SET) FADE IN. [EXT. NEW YORK CITY (STOCK) - DAY] LEGEND: 44 HOURS MISSING SCENE #13: [INT. FBI - MISSING PERSONS UNIT -- DAY] (JACK fills DANNY and SAMANTHA in on the investigation.) JACK: First victim was Jessica Weaver. 29 years old, single, brown hair, five-five, medium build. Not unlike Linda Schmidt. DANNY: What about her background? JACK: Let's see. She was a Marketing Executive at Vedder's Publishing Downtown. Lived on the Upper West Side. Time share in the East Hamptons. Lost of friends, pretty outgoing. SAMANTHA: That's not like Linda at all. DANNY: Well, if he's cruising the bars their personalities may have nothing to do with why he's choosing them. JACK: This could be cruising of a different kind. The NYPD believes that Jessica Weaver met her killer on the internet. Not the same web site as Linda's, but we have our Techs cross-referencing the activity to make sure there's no overlap. SAMANTHA: When was weaver's body found? JACK: The next day, in the east river. We've added extra boats there and to the Hudson. DANNY: This doesn't rule out the pilot. JACK: No, we will be investigating on two fronts. Martin and Viv, I'm going to go talk to the third roommate. You two have a meeting with the NYPD at The Eon in fifteen minutes. I want you to work on the serial killer angle. DANNY: Who's our contact? JACK: Eric Keller. (DANNY looks at SAMANTHA and smirks.) DANNY: This should be interesting. (DANNY leaves the office. SAMANTHA looks at JACK for a moment, then turns to leave.) CUT TO: SCENE #14: [INT. THE EON - BAR -- DAY] (ERIC KELLER sits at the bar and stands when SAMANTHA and DANNY walk in.) ERIC KELLER: Special Agent Taylor. Special Agent Spade. Greetings. SAMANTHA: Eric. ERIC KELLER: It's been too long. You've, uh, you've been missed. SAMANTHA: So, what can you tell us? ERIC KELLER: We think the killer found his first victim on the internet. Invited her around the corner to The Platinum, and at some point, he managed to slip rohypnol into her drink. And from there, she was history. DANNY: Roofie. Sounds like a classy guy. I want to talk to the bartender. I'll let you guys catch up. (DANNY steps away and leaves to talk to the Bartender.) ERIC KELLER: You look good. Let your hair grow. SAMANTHA: What can you tell me about Jessica Weaver's internet dating? ERIC KELLER: We've had an undercover unit on it the last few weeks. Put profiles in all the big dating services, hoping to draw the guy out. Maybe get a print on a cocktail glass, run it against what we've got. SAMANTHA: Any luck? ERIC KELLER: Actually, we've been too lucky. Our ladies have had more dates in the last two weeks than all of them combined in the last two years. SAMANTHA: Got a list for me? (ERIC KELLER digs in his pocket and hands SAMANTHA a folded piece of paper. She takes it and looks at it.) SAMANTHA: Ooh. Very official. Can you get me a bit more background on any of these guys? ERIC KELLER: I'll see what we can do. SAMANTHA: Okay. (SAMANTHA turns to walk away. She stops and turns back.) SAMANTHA: You know ... you don't look too bad yourself. ERIC KELLER: Thanks. SAMANTHA: But for a detective, your investigating skills are pretty poor. I didn't let my hair grow; I cut it. ERIC KELLER: Yeah. SAMANTHA: I'm going to go talk to the bartender. (Smiling, SAMANTHA turns and walks toward DANNY.) ERIC KELLER: I'll-I'll take the waitresses. CUT TO: SCENE #15: [INT. THE EON - BAR -- CONTINUOUS] (SAMANTHA puts her stuff down on the bar and turns on DANNY.) SAMANTHA: You did not have to do that. DANNY: Sure, I did. SAMANTHA: Oh, god. What do you got from the bartender? DANNY: He says he doesn't remember seeing her. He's in the back, hunting down her credit card receipts. SAMANTHA: Good. (The BARTENDER returns from the register with the stack of receipts.) BARTENDER: She never closed out her tab and left her card. DANNY: But you closed her out at 11:45. BARTENDER: I don't remember. I mean, I must have looked around and seen she wasn't here and ran it through. I mean, it happens all the time. I got a stack of cards back here. DANNY: All right, thanks. SAMANTHA: What'd she have to drink? DANNY: Two martinis. She must have been wasted. SAMANTHA: Off two drinks? DANNY: Well, if she's been clean for a whole year, half a beer could get her in a hell of a lot of trouble. CUT TO: [EXT. NEW YORK CITY (STOCK) - DAY] SCENE #16: [INT. LINDA SCHMIDT'S APARTMENT -- DAY] (MARTIN interviews LINDA SCHMIDT'S roommate, WALTER PAGON.) WALTER PAGON: Well, if she's in some kind of trouble, I can tell you who did it. MARTIN: I'm listening. WALTER PAGON: We were coming out of the museum -- this was three days ago-- when out of nowhere, this woman accosts her. (Quick flashback to: WALTER PAGON smiling and laughing with LINDA SCHMIDT when a strawberry blonde-haired woman walks up to LINDA and starts yelling at her.) PILOT'S WIFE: Hey, you bitch! You ought to be ashamed of yourself. LINDA SCHMIDT: Excuse me? (She chuckles.) PILOT'S WIFE: Oh, I know all about you. Little girl lost with her alcohol problem and her daddy complex. (LINDA'S not smiling anymore.) LINDA SCHMIDT: Who are you? PILOT'S WIFE: You're sleeping with my husband, you bitch. That's who I am. LINDA SCHMIDT: Your husband? I don't know what you're talking about. PILOT'S WIFE: You better stay the hell away from him. Do you understand? WALTER PAGON: (v.o.) She had no idea the man she's been seeing is married. (End of flashback. Resume to present.) MARTIN: Who is he? WALTER PAGON: I don't know. And she wouldn't tell me. I mean, I didn't even know until that moment that she was involved with anyone. MARTIN: Could he have been a pilot? WALTER PAGON: Yeah, sure. That happens all the time. (MARTIN nods.) CUT TO: WHITEBOARD TIMELINE: 3 DAYS - CONFRONTED BY PILOT'S WIFE SCENE #17: [INT. DR. AARON MORRISON'S OFFICE -- DAY] LEGEND: 47 HOURS MISSING (JACK goes back to DR. AARON MORRISON'S office for another interview.) JACK: We believe that the man responsible for Linda's disappearance has already killed one woman. DR. AARON MORRISON: Oh, no. JACK: Now, I'm going to need your help, Dr. Morrison. DR. AARON MORRISON: Well, I already told you. I'd like to help, but ... JACK: I'll tell you what. Why don't we... do this? Why don't I tell you what I know or I suspect? And if I'm on the wrong track, you can refute it. But if you remain silent, I will take that as a confirmation. DR. AARON MORRISON: (hesitates) All right. We can try that. JACK: Thank you. (pauses) Three days ago, Linda was confronted by the wife of her lover ... (pauses) ... who is a pilot ... (pauses) ... but is not Joel Landis, who she used to have an affair with. (pauses) She had no idea that this other man -- this pilot-- was married, until that day. We've also discovered that she was involved in an internet dating service. I'm assuming that the two of you talked about that. (pauses) We also believe that she had no real contact with this service for at least the last nine months. (DR. AARON MORRISON clears his throat.) JACK: I will assume, then that the ... trauma of discovering that this man was married made her get in touch with the man that she'd been corresponding with from the internet service nine months ago. DR. AARON MORRISON: I think that is very ... possible. JACK: Okay, Dr. Morrison, what I have here is a list of the men that we are investigating as possible suspects. Now, what I'm going to do is, I'm going to read each one aloud. Now, if you've never heard the name before, just say no. But if you recognize a name, remain silent. (DR. MORRISON sits back in his seat.) JACK: William Forest. DR. AARON MORRISON: No. JACK: James Earland. DR. AARON MORRISON: No. JACK: Michael Spitz. DR. AARON MORRISON: No. JACK: Richard Morgan. (DR. AARON MORRISON looks at JACK and doesn't say anything.) JACK: Richard Morgan. Thank you, Dr. Morrison. You've been very helpful. DR. AARON MORRISON: I hope you realize that if you do apprehend this man, I can't testify against him. JACK: I can guarantee you that your role in this will be protected. DR. AARON MORRISON: Thank you. CUT TO: SCENE #18: [INT. FBI - JACK'S OFFICE -- DAY] (SAMANTHA walks into JACK'S office.) SAMANTHA: Hey. JACK: Hey. I talked to Keller. You're going to stand in for his cop and rendezvous with Richard Morgan tonight at the bar. SAMANTHA: Okay. JACK: Your screen name is ... "Georgia Peach." (SAMANTHA smiles.) JACK: Here's the complete file, including all the e-mails that were exchanged between Georgia and Morgan this week. (JACK hands SAMANTHA the file. She looks at it.) SAMANTHA: What about my hair? (JACK looks up at SAMANTHA expectedly.) CUT TO: SCENE #19: [INT. THE EON - BAR -- NIGHT] (SAMANTHA walks into the bar and takes a seat. She looks around.) (A distance away from her, MARTIN and DANNY also sit at the bar. They're blending into the crowd.) (ERIC KELLER walks up to SAMANTHA and mutters to her.) KELLER: Try to look a little less desperate, will you? (SAMANTHA smiles. He walks away.) CUT TO: SCENE #20: (Across the room, MARTIN sees the exchange.) MARTIN: Is there something going on between those two? DANNY: Used to be. MARTIN: Really? That's her type, huh? DANNY: Hey, are you jealous? MARTIN: Jealous? What, are you crazy? DANNY: Okay. Guess I'm crazy. MARTIN: (smiles and shakes his head) Yeah. (MARTIN sees something.) MARTIN: Hey, here we go. CUT TO: SCENE #21: (RICHARD MORGAN approaches SAMANTHA.) RICHARD MORGAN: Georgia? (SAMANTHA turns around.) SAMANTHA (GEORGIA PEACH): Richard. RICHARD MORGAN: Richard Morgan. Nice to meet you. SAMANTHA (GEORGIA PEACH): Nice to meet you. RICHARD MORGAN: God, you're so much prettier than in your picture. SAMANTHA (GEORGIA PEACH): Oh, gosh! So are you. I mean, well, you're not prettier. You're ... (over radio) Much more handsome. I'm sorry. I'm, uh, nervous, I guess. I've never really done this before. RICHARD MORGAN: I promise that I'll, uh, be gentle. (They laugh.) SAMANTHA (AS GEORGIA PEACH): Oh, I guess, I guess you have done this before? RICHARD MORGAN: Uh-uh, not-not for a while. SAMANTHA (GEORGIA PEACH): Oh, well, that's good ... I guess. RICHARD MORGAN: Can I... can I get you something to drink? SAMANTHA (GEORGIA PEACH): Sure. Um, just a club soda would be great. Be right back. RICHARD MORGAN: Okay. SAMANTHA (GEORGIA PEACH): (sotto to the mic) All right, I'm going to play it prudish with this one. Hope he takes the bait. He's coming your way. (As RICHARD MORGAN approaches the bar where MARTIN and DANNY are seated, DANNY starts to ramble.) DANNY: She says to me, like, "I want to break up." And I'm like, "break up?" (RICHARD MORGAN stands right behind MARTIN and makes his order to the BARTENDER.) RICHARD MORGAN: Hey, can I get a club soda and a beer? DANNY: You know what I'm saying? I gave her this, I gave her that, I ... MARTIN: Well, I understand completely. (RICHARD MORGAN looks back at SAMANTHA as she's still seated at the bar with her back to them.) DANNY: And what kills me is that I'd go back to her, you know? (RICHARD MORGAN grabs the drinks and heads back to SAMANTHA. DANNY leans over the bar and the BARTENDER walks over to him.) DANNY: Hey, the guy that just ordered the club soda and the beer? You seen him before? BARTENDER: (looking) No. DANNY: I need you to think, man. This is important, okay? BARTENDER: I'm telling you. I'm good with faces. No. DANNY: All right. (DANNY sits back down. MARTIN is monitoring the conversation.) CUT TO: SCENE #22: RICHARD MORGAN: So, I hope you like this place. I mean, I don't really come here that much, but it's close to where I live, so ... SAMANTHA (GEORGIA PEACH): No, it's great. RICHARD MORGAN: I, uh... I like it. SAMANTHA (GEORGIA PEACH): Oh, good. It's ... you've never been here before? RICHARD MORGAN: No. I've been to the, uh ... the Platinum around the corner but never here. SAMANTHA: Listen, I just want to say something right off the bat, and I know this may sound presumptuous, but ... I just want to take things slow, you know? Is that okay? RICHARD MORGAN: Sure, of course. SAMANTHA (GEORGIA PEACH): Oh, good. RICHARD MORGAN: So-so do I. So do I. SAMANTHA (GEORGIA PEACH): (laughs) Great, I'm so relieved. That's good. I'm sorry. I'm going to go powder my nose, and I'll-I'll be right back. RICHARD MORGAN: Mm-hmm. SAMANTHA: Okay. (SAMANTHA leaves.) (As soon as she's gone from his view, RICHARD MORGAN reaches into his coat pocket and pulls out a small envelope with something in it.) (MARTIN sees him.) MARTIN: He's going for it. (MARTIN and DANNY stand and approach RICHARD MORGAN.) (From his seat, ERIC KELLER watches RICHARD MORGAN add the drug to SAMANTHA'S drink. The three men approach RICHARD MORGAN as he tucks the envelope back into his pocket.) DANNY: Richard Morgan, you are under arrest for the murders of Jessica Weaver and Linda Schmidt. (DANNY pulls his hands behind his back and handcuffs him. MARTIN takes a napkin and grabs SAMANTHA'S drink.) RICHARD MORGAN: Hey, what the hell are you doing? DANNY: Relax, just relax, relax. (The men escort RICHARD MORGAN out of the bar. ERIC KELLER trails behind. SAMANTHA approaches him.) SAMANTHA: Did we get him? ERIC KELLER: Got him. SAMANTHA: Right on. (They walk out of the bar.) FADE TO BLACK. (COMMERCIAL SET) FADE IN. SCENE #23: [INT. FBI - INTERROGATION ROOM - DAY] LEGEND: 61 HOURS MISSING (From the observation room, JACK watches as RICHARD MORGAN speaks with his lawyer. The lawyer stands up and leaves the room. The lawyer joins JACK.) LAWYER: My client doesn't remember where he was the night of that murder, but he has a solid alibi for Tuesday night. JACK: I'm all ears. LAWYER: He was on a date with a woman named Rachel O'Connor. She's a paralegal. They had drinks at the soho lux till midnight, then he spent the night at her place. It's rock-solid. JACK: Is there any way we can contact this Rachel O'Connor? LAWYER: Met her on the internet. He says he has her number written down on a pad at home. JACK: Well, we're combing his place right now. Let's hope for his sake, we find it. (JACK walks away.) CUT TO: SCENE #24: [INT. RICHARD MORGAN'S RESIDENCE -- DAY (SAMANTHA leafs through the papers on the desk. In the back, an OFFICER hands a medication container to ERIC KELLER. He takes it and walks toward SAMANTHA.) ERIC KELLER: Bet you a nickel, this is rohypnol. (SAMANTHA doesn't look happy. She holds out a piece of paper. He grabs it from her.) ERIC KELLER: What's this? SAMANTHA: I don't know. What is it? ERIC KELLER: (reading) "Rachel O'Connor." (to SAMANTHA) You keeping something from me? (She grabs the paper from him.) SAMANTHA: It's Morgan's alibi. ERIC KELLER: I don't know why you're territorial, especially since this should be our case. (MARTIN walks into the room and notices ERIC and SAMANTHA.) SAMANTHA: Right. Well, we still have a missing body and for all we know, there's more so, if you'll excuse me ... (SAMANTHA turns and walks toward MARTIN who picks up a file folder and starts looking through it.) SAMANTHA: Hey ... MARTIN: Hey, "Georgia" ... nice work last night. (ERIC KELLER watches her for a moment with a smile on his face, then turns and walks away.) SAMANTHA: (to MARTIN) Thank you. MARTIN: It's scary, this internet dating. SAMANTHA: (looking at ERIC KELLER) Dating in general. MARTIN: Yeah, but meeting people on the computer? Come on. (Rather than a quick agreement, SAMANTHA hedges.) SAMANTHA: Oh, I don't know ... (This catches MARTIN'S attention. He turns to look at her.) MARTIN: Have you tried it? (SAMANTHA smiles at MARTIN enigmatically. He can't believe it.) MARTIN: No-o-o. SAMANTHA: (smiles) Hey, you think it's easy being surrounded by guys with guns all day? MARTIN: I thought you liked guys with guns. SAMANTHA: I like the guns. (ERIC KELLER walks toward them carrying another medication bottle.) ERIC KELLER: More goodies from the medicine cabinet. Ativan. SAMANTHA: That's heavy stuff. MARTIN: Yeah, it's anti-anxiety. ERIC KELLER: Apparently it wasn't working. MARTIN: Well, that's not the point. Ten to one odds this was prescribed by a psychiatrist. (ERIC KELLER looks down at the medication label. It reads: ) [Dr. Henry Franklin MORGAN, RICHARD Take 1 table(s) four times daily on an empty stomach Rx:04-659118 ] CUT TO: SCENE #25: [INT. DR. HENRY FRANKLIN'S OFFICE] (JACK interviews DR. HENRY FRANKLIN.) JACK: I'm not screwing around, Dr. Franklin. If you knew that your patient murdered Jessica Weaver three weeks ago, you had a duty to inform. DR. HENRY FRANKLIN: No, I did not. JACK: Did he confess to you about her? DR. HENRY FRANKLIN: I can't tell you and you know that. JACK: I can have you subpoenaed and you will lose your license. DR. HENRY FRANKLIN: I've been struggling with this. Believe me, I have. JACK: Look, Jessica Weaver's already dead. If anything happens to Linda Schmidt, it's gonna be on your head. DR. HENRY FRANKLIN: Even if a patient confesses to a crime I only have a duty to inform if I believe he will harm someone else. I didn't know he would. CUT TO: [EXT. NEW YORK CITY (STOCK) - DAY] SCENE #26: [INT. FBI - HALLWAY -- DAY] (JACK walks through the hallway with RICHARD MORGAN'S LAWYER.) JACK: We found rohypnol in his apartment. We know he had internet contact with Jessica Weaver and this is the DNA report from the autopsy. (JACK hands the man the file folder. He looks at it.) JACK: His DNA matches perfectly. LAWYER: What do you want? JACK: Get him to tell us where Linda Schmidt's body is and maybe you can keep him off death row. (JACK hangs back in the observation room. The LAWYER enters the interrogation room to talk with RICHARD MORGAN.) LAWYER: Do you understand the impact of DNA today? RICHARD MORGAN: Yeah, I know what DNA means. (SAMANTHA walks into the Observation Room and stands next to JACK.) SAMANTHA: We just got through with Rachel O'Connor the girl who was with him the night Linda went missing. She remembers drinking a lot leaving the Soho Lux around 11:00. The next thing she remembers is waking up on her couch the next morning, half naked. Here's the thing-- if he slipped her a roofie, took her back to her apartment, raped her, there's no way he'd make it back across town to meet Linda and there's nothing in her phone records or e-mails that tie her to him. JACK: So the two bars around the corner from each other, the stalking, the internet dating is what, just a coincidence? SAMANTHA: There's got to be someone else someone who wanted to make it look like a serial killing. (JACK thinks about it. He turns and looks back at the LAWYER and RICHARD MORGAN in the other room.) CUT TO: SCENE #27: [INT. FBI - MISSING PERSONS UNIT -- DAY] LEGEND: 64 HOURS MISSING (Everyone is standing around the desks pondering the situation.) DANNY: It's got to be someone with a real motive that they copycat, tied the motive. SAMANTHA: The pilot's wife. We haven't found her or the pilot. JACK: What if the boyfriend isn't the pilot? What if that's just a convenient white lie she's been telling? MARTIN: So let's say that's true. Whoever this boyfriend is, he'd have to know the details of the first murder. Stalking was never mentioned in any of the newspapers. DANNY: Dirty cop? (SAMANTHA turns to look at DANNY.) Someone who works with Keller? SAMANTHA: (shakes her head) Mm-mm. MARTIN: How about Morgan's shrink? He'd have all the details. SAMANTHA: Maybe the shrink told someone the details. JACK: No, he could never do that -- that's the point. Although there is one person he could tell. CUT TO: SCENE #28: [INT. DR. HENRY FRANKLIN'S OFFICE -- DAY] (JACK is back questioning DR. HENRY FRANKLIN.) JACK: Dr. Franklin, do you see your own therapist? DR. HENRY FRANKLIN: Yes, of course. JACK: And did you discuss your situation about Richard Morgan? DR. HENRY FRANKLIN: Agent Malone, I appreciate the fact that you're trying to do your job but that is a very private and personal relationship between a patient and a therapist. JACK: Dr. Franklin, there is a woman missing right now who may be at the bottom of the East river, and there is a mother who is crying her eyes out because she has no idea what's happened to her daughter. Now, I am not asking you to violate your patient's privilege. I am asking you to violate your own and I think, under the circumstances, it's the least you could do. DR. HENRY FRANKLIN: Yes. I did talk to my therapist. JACK: And did you discuss all the details? DR. HENRY FRANKLIN: I thought the more specific I was, the better handle I could get on Richard's state of mind and the more it would help me with my dilemma. JACK: And did you mention Richard's name? DR. HENRY FRANKLIN: Yes. I gave my therapist my clinical files and Richard's name was on it. JACK: And what's your therapist's name? DR. HENRY FRANKLIN: Patty Morrison. JACK: Morrison? Is she married to another psychologist? DR. HENRY FRANKLIN: Yes. Aaron Morrison. Do you know him? JACK: You might say that. FADE TO BLACK. (COMMERCIAL SET) FADE IN. [EXT. NEW YORK CITY (STOCK) - DAY] LEGEND: 67 HOURS MISSING SCENE #29: [INT. FBI - HALLWAY -- DAY] (DANNY escorts DR. AARON MORRISON through the hallway.) DR. AARON MORRISON: Where's my wife? DANNY: We're talking to her downstairs, Dr. Morrison. Now, please, have a seat in here and we'll be with you in a minute. (DANNY leaves DR. MORRISON in the room and leaves.) CUT TO: SCENE #30: [INT. FBI - INTERROGATION ROOM -- DAY] (DR. PATTY MORRISON sits in the interrogation room and waits. In the Observation room, MARTIN is with WALTER PAGON who makes visual confirmation.) MARTIN: You sure that's her? WALTER PAGON: Absolutely. MARTIN: The one who claimed Linda was having an affair with her husband? WALTER PAGON: No question. Who is she? JACK: We're going to send you upstairs to get a statement. WALTER PAGON: Sure. (The OFFICER takes WALTER PAGON out of the Observation Room.) MARTIN: Well, now we got motive and opportunity. JACK: Either we have the killer sitting right here or upstairs in the waiting room. MARTIN: But we don't have enough to get a confession. JACK: No, and if I accuse either one of them directly they're going to get a lawyer. MARTIN: You got a plan? JACK: (nods) Mm-hmm. Divide and conquer. CUT TO: SCENE #31: [INT. FBI - CONFERENCE ROOM -- DAY] (JACK walks into the Conference room where DR. AARON MORRISON waits.) DR. AARON MORRISON: You want to tell me what this is all about? Where's my wife? JACK: Sorry to keep you waiting, Dr. Morrison. Please, take a seat. (They both sit down.) JACK: Linda Schmidt's roommate just I.D'd your wife. We know that you're the "Pilot" that she was sleeping with. DR. AARON MORRISON: Oh, no, no. Look, Linda used to call the house sometimes at night for counseling. My wife got it into her head we were having an affair. She can be a very jealous woman, my wife. JACK: You purposely deceived me when I was in your office. DR. AARON MORRISON: I apologize. I was nervous that you'd find out about my wife and I knew what that would look like. JACK: How would it look? (beat) How did you know about Richard Morgan? DR. AARON MORRISON: Linda met Richard Morgan on the internet. She mentioned him to me several times. When you stopped by my office the other day and said his name I communicated that to you. JACK: It would appear that Richard Morgan was seeing a colleague of your wife's. DR. AARON MORRISON: I don't understand what you're saying. JACK: I'm afraid that you were trying to lay off Linda's disappearance onto Richard Morgan to protect your wife. DR. AARON MORRISON: I think I need to call a lawyer for my wife. JACK: She knows she has the right to an attorney. She hasn't asked for one. CUT TO: SCENE #32: [INT. FBI - INTERROGATION ROOM - DAY] (JACK questions DR. PATTY MORRISON.) DR. PATTY MORRISON: I was just being paranoid. I can be very jealous sometimes, but I know now that my husband was not having an affair with Linda Schmidt. JACK: Her roommate says that he was. DR. PATTY MORRISON: Well, her roommate was lying. JACK: I think Linda Schmidt was a very dangerous woman. She could have ended your marriage. Maybe even ended your husband's career. I think he killed her. DR. PATTY MORRISON: That's insane. JACK: We spoke to Dr. Franklin. We know that he told you the details of Richard Morgan's confession and that you passed those details on to your husband. DR. PATTY MORRISON: No, I did not. JACK: Really? Then how do you explain the fact that the elements of Linda Schmidt's disappearance match the details of Jessica Weaver's murder? DR. PATTY MORRISON: I don't even discuss my own patients with my husband let alone those of another doctor. JACK: I think you're protecting him. You may not want to admit it, but he did it. (beat) He killed her. CUT TO: SCENE #33: [INT. FBI - MISSING PERSONS UNIT -- DAY] (MARTIN sits back in his chair pondering the case. Leaning back, he holds a blue Nerf football in his hands behind his head.) MARTIN: All right, here's what I don't get: Linda leaves her apartment at 7:00 that night to catch a midnight flight. She's wearing her flight attendant's uniform, she's got an overnight bag packed, right? SAMANTHA: Why was Linda at the bar? Is that what you're asking? MARTIN: Exactly. (MARTIN tosses the football to SAMANTHA. She catches it and suggests a scenario.) SAMANTHA: One of our two married shrinks invited her there to talk things out? MARTIN: Then how did she end up starting her own tab and drinking two martinis? SAMANTHA: Good point. (SAMANTHA tosses the football back to MARTIN and suggests another scenario.) SAMANTHA: Maybe she went to confront one of them stops at the bar to drink up some courage gets drunk, leaves her credit card there and then goes on to meet whoever she's meeting. MARTIN: But she's an alcoholic and falling off the wagon is more a moment of desperation than strength. (MARTIN tosses the football to SAMANTHA. She catches it and continues the thought without missing a beat.) SAMANTHA: And if they were trying to make it look like a serial killing they got really lucky that Linda showed up at The Eon right around the corner from where Richard Morgan picked up his first victim. MARTIN: Unless ... (MARTIN stands up.) SAMANTHA: Unless ... (SAMANTHA also gets up and tosses the football back to MARTIN.) BOTH: She was never at the bar. (MARTIN catches the ball and walks toward SAMANTHA who is digging through the files on her desk for something.) SAMANTHA: You know what? No one at the bar recognized her and she never signed her credit card receipt. MARTIN: What are you looking for? SAMANTHA: Prints off that credit card. MARTIN: I'll check the AMA for Patty Morrison's prints. CUT TO: SCENE #34: [INT. FBI - CONFERENCE ROOM -- DAY] (JACK walks into the room.) DR. AARON MORRISON: What is going on here? It's been hours. I want to speak to my wife. (JACK takes a seat.) JACK: Dr. Morrison, where was your wife the night Linda disappeared? DR. AARON MORRISON: She was with me at home. JACK: What time? DR. AARON MORRISON: I got home around 7:00. She was already there. We never left. JACK: Your wife wasn't at home. She was at The Eon bar posing as Linda Schmidt. DR. AARON MORRISON: That's preposterous. (DR. AARON MORRISON takes a drink of water. He puts the glass down.) JACK: Her fingerprints are all over Linda Schmidt's credit card. She killed Linda, she dumped the body, she stole the credit card, she went to The Eon bar. She left a knotted stocking in the back of Linda's car so that we'd put it together. DR. AARON MORRISON: I don't believe it. JACK: She was at the bar. Why are you trying to protect her? DR. AARON MORRISON: You know what? I think I need a lawyer for myself. JACK: There's the phone. Tell 'em you're going to be charged with an accessory to murder. (JACK stands up and leaves the room. Just outside the room VIVIAN leans against the wall waiting for JACK.) CUT TO: SCENE #35: [INT. FBI - HALLWAY -- CONTINUOUS] (VIVIAN fills JACK in on the latest information.) VIVIAN: We ran Patty Morrison's phone record. There's no indication she had any contact with Linda Schmidt on the night of her disappearance. JACK: So what do you think? VIVIAN: Well, Linda left her apartment five hours early to go to the airport. She had to be meeting somebody and if it wasn't the wife, then ... JACK: ... it must have been the husband. VIVIAN: Right. I think she went by his office to give him a piece of her mind. They argued, and he killed her. JACK: How did the wife end up at The Eon? (VIVIAN shows JACK the file.) VIVIAN: Ah, he calls her on her cell phone at 7:58 that night. I think he killed her and his wife's covering for him. (beat) But how do we break her? (JACK looks over at DR. AARON MORRISON.) CUT TO: SCENE #36: [INT. FBI - MISSING PERSONS UNIT -- DAY] (Camera close up of a microcassette tape recorder.) VIVIAN: State your name, please. SAMANTHA: Francis Appleton. VIVIAN: And you're a patient of Dr. Aaron Morrison. SAMANTHA: That's right. He was my therapist. VIVIAN: You say you were with Dr. Aaron Morrison between 8:00 and midnight on Tuesday. SAMANTHA: We were at my apartment. VIVIAN: Am I to take it that you were having sexual relations? SAMANTHA: I hardly think that's relevant. VIVIAN: Ms. Appleton, in case it escaped your notice you are a material witness in a Federal Investigation. I tell you what's relevant. SAMANTHA: Yes, we were sleeping together. VIVIAN: And how long have you been sleeping together? ... DISSOLVE TO: SCENE #37: [INT. FBI - INTERROGATION ROOM] (DR. PATTY MORRISON listens to the taped conversation. Her head is in her hands. She's very upset.) SAMANTHA (over tape player): About six months. VIVIAN: (tape) Where did you meet? SAMANTHA: (tape) I was a patient of his. VIVIAN: (tape) And you knew he was married? SAMANTHA: (tape) Go ahead and judge me if you want but you have no idea what a shrew his wife is. He's only with her out of convenience or laziness. He's going to leave her. DR. PATTY MORRISON: Turn it off. (crying) Please. (JACK reaches over and turns the tape recorder off.) JACK: I should make you listen to all of it. It's much worse. You two had a plan, didn't you? But he's not sticking to it. He's got a little piece of ass on the side and she's going to provide an alibi for him. He's going to be free and clear and he's going to leave you in the cold. He is going to kick you to the curb, Patty. DR. PATTY MORRISON: I don't know who that is, but he was with me. We were together. (JACK holds out a little evidence bag.) JACK: Uh-huh. We found this hair in Linda Schmidt's car. Now, I'd need a DNA sample but my guess is it's yours. Your husband planted this hair in Linda Schmidt's car. DR. PATTY MORRISON: Oh, my god. JACK: Do you want to tell me what happened that night? He's going to leave you high and dry, trust me. If you tell me what happened, I will help you. DR. PATTY MORRISON: He called me. He called me and he told me that something terrible had happened and that I should come to his office. (Quick flashback to: DR. AARON MORRISON on the telephone. He turns around. On the couch is LINDA SCHMIDT. She's dead.) DR. AARON MORRISON: She came here. She said she was going to report me to the APA. I got angry. I tried to convince her not to, but she tried to leave and I grabbed her. I don't know, the next thing I know she ... I must have strangled her. DR. PATTY MORRISON: Why did you bring me here? DR. AARON MORRISON: Patty, Patty, I need your help. Please, please ... please, I love you. I love our life together. I don't deserve to spend the rest of my life in jail and you don't deserve to be alone. DR. PATTY MORRISON: But ... DR. AARON MORRISON: She's a sick girl. She tried to destroy us. DR. PATTY MORRISON: So what are we going to do? How are we going to get rid of the body? DR. AARON MORRISON: I don't know. There's got to be something ... some way. DR. PATTY MORRISON: (v.o.) And that's when I thought of Richard Morgan. (End of flashback. Resume to present.) DR. PATTY MORRISON: I guess I thought if I did this for him that he would never leave me. Seemed like such a good idea at the time. CUT TO: SCENE #38: [INT. FBI - CONFERENCE ROOM] (JACK is in the conference room telling DR. AARON MORRISON everything.) JACK: Your wife told us everything including where the body is. It's just a matter of time before we find it. DR. AARON MORRISON: You're lying. JACK: It's in Fishkill. The waterfalls by your cabin. I know that area. Water's pretty deep. (He leans back in his chair.) DR. AARON MORRISON: She did it. It wasn't me. I have been covering for her. And she's the one who knew about Richard Morgan, it wasn't me. (For a long moment, JACK doesn't say anything.) JACK: Your lawyer's on his way up. (JACK stands and leaves.) CUT TO: SCENE #39: [INT. FBI - MISSING PERSONS UNIT] (JACK walks into the office.) VIVIAN: He confess? JACK: Nope. He's going to blame her to the bitter end. VIVIAN: Shall I put his wife's "hair" into evidence? JACK: Mm-hmm. And you may as well add this. You and Sam should take that show on the road. (JACK gives VIVIAN the tape cassette. VIVIAN laughs appreciatively.) JACK: Good job. CUT TO: [EXT. NEW YORK CITY (STOCK) - NIGHT] SCENE #40: [INT. FBI - MISSING PERSONS UNIT -- NIGHT] (SAMANTHA is on the telephone. MARTIN sits at his desk reading a file.) SAMANTHA: (to phone) Okay, thanks. Bye. (She hangs up the phone.) The Fishkill P.D. found the body. (MARTIN stands up.) They're bringing her back to Manhattan for the autopsy. I'll see you tomorrow, okay? (SAMANTHA walks away to leave the office. MARTIN stops her.) MARTIN: Samantha ... you, uh, you got time to grab a drink? SAMANTHA: Oh, I've ... I-I told Keller I'd meet him. But, I mean, you're welcome to come with us if ... MARTIN: No, no, that's all right. No, you guys go ahead. Thanks. SAMANTHA: Okay, well, maybe some other time? MARTIN: Yeah, some other time. SAMANTHA: Okay. (SAMANTHA turns to leave. MARTIN looks down and sighs. He heads back to his desk. SAMANTHA stops and turns around.) SAMANTHA: Martin? (He looks up at her.) MARTIN: Yeah? SAMANTHA: You okay? MARTIN: (sighs) It's ... it's not very satisfying, is it? SAMANTHA: What's that? MARTIN: Not finding them alive. SAMANTHA: Well, her mother will have some closure. The bad guy's going to go to jail. We did our job. MARTIN: (nods) Yeah, I guess. G'night. SAMANTHA: Good night. (SAMANTHA turns and leaves. MARTIN sighs.) LYRICS: ["Trouble", by Coldplay] Oh no, I see / a spiderweb is tangled up with me / and I lost my head / and thought of all the stupid things I'd said ... (MARTIN walks over to the Whiteboard and takes down the photo of LINDAY SCHMIDT. Case closed.) (MARTIN stands in front of the window and looks outside as the rain hits the glass pane. He turns and walks away.) FADE TO BLACK. ======================== THE END ======================== [Captioning sponsored by CBS and Warner Bros.
